Lande Hekt Shares Gay Space Cadets Video

Lande Hekt burst onto everyone’s radar earlier this year with her excellent Romantic 7″ for Emotional Response, and she’s turned right around and delivered another gem, but this time with an album announcement! This song starts out with this ringing guitar riff, and honestly, I can’t believe how easily it slides into your ears and implants itself in your memory. When it hits the chorus, you can easily hear why everyone is fawning over the songwriting, brightly charming as the melody rises up; you’re going to be begging us to get this song out of your head by the end of the day, but it lives there now, so get used to it! The new album, House Without a View, is slated for release in September, with Get Better Records.

Nervous Twitch Share Forgive Yourself

I did a lot of jamming out to Nervous Twitch‘s self-titled album, and I have a feeling that with a new record on the horizon, there’s going to be a lot of the band on these here Interweb pages. Today, we’re stoked to bring you their first single from the forthcoming Some People Never Change LP, offering a nice little ditty to set the scene for what’s in store. A heavy bass line slowly opens the track, and in doing so, it sets the scene for this track, allowing the band’s patience to spill through your speakers. The playful melody becomes instantly obvious, but where other bands rush to fill your ears with earcandy, Nervous Twitch just want to hang out; they want you to tap your toes and bob your head, but there’s no need to rush. Heavier riffs and pounding drums build throughout, giving the edge to the tune; I keep thinking of a slow burning Donnas jam when I hear this hit! If your’e into it, Some People Never Change will be released by Reckless Yes on October 7th!

Alvvays Announce New LP

Looks like we’re going to have a popaholics kind of day over on ATH! Alvvays announce a brand new record today, and we’ve got that brand new single for you to stream! It’s hard to believe its been five years since their last LP, though Molly Rankin’s voice still remains central to what they’re offering listeners. I like that her sugary voice is juxtaposed to the psychedelic swirl operating just behind it, kind of messing with the listener as you’re not sure what’s attracting you to the sound. It’s a brief tune, but they toy with the formula a great bit, so hats off to the group for pushing their sound beyond expectations and the trappings of pop. Blue Rev is sounding awfully special; it drops in October via Polyvinyl. Be sure to sample these new songs on the band’s NA tour this Fall!

Northern Portrait Announce New Album, Share Single

If you’re into the pop scene, you’re surely aware of Danish outfit Northern Portrait. Well, today brings us good news that a brand new record is on the horizon; it’s titled The Swiss Army, and has an August 5th release date penciled on the books. This new single has that slow-burning ballad down, offering up a calmed croon that rides on the casual rhythm section while the arrangements lift the melody to the surface. I can see this getting a lot of Smiths comparisons in the way the vocals work, but be sure you give the focus to the musical element; there are some slightly noisier elements buried in the mix that I think show the band working to elevate their sound. Adults Sign to Fika Recordings, Drop New Single

Man, Fika Recordings sure knows how to pick them! They’ve just picked up Adults, and with that announcement, dropped this joyous rock from the group that’s going to blast through your speakers for the rest of the day. There’s an ample buoyancy from the vocal work, and the guitars are crunchy, though I like how they’re a bit tempered here; think of Martha having to play at your local library…hooks, but just a little more subdued. There’s just something about this song that radiates joy, and it looks like they’ve got a record planned for the Autumn sometime, so let’s rejoice that there’s more tasty treats on the way!

Turquoise Share Le Bruit Single

Don’t often get asked to share tunes from Belgium, so when I got this new Turquoise single, I had to jump at the chance right? It just so happens that the song’s this dark bit of dreamy pop that suits my tastes, so an added bonus. After some quick synth stabs, the bass line begins to brood beneath the mixture, coated in these heavy vocal notes. But, when the song hits that chorus, it opens up a bit, like a ray of light sort of bursting through the cracks of the song. If you’re into it, this single comes with a more pensive bit of pop on the B-side, so be sure to stop by and check out our new Belgian friends.

Temples of Youth Share Keen to Be Clean

When I first listened to this new jam from UK outfit Temples of Youth, I’ll admit, I was immediately drawn into the current climate of post-punk stylings worked over with deadpan vocal delivery. Yes, tons of acts have been gravitating this way, and I don’t mind that, but this new single mixes it up when it gets right to the core of the chorus. Instead of something that feels disjointed or arty, they let that moment sort of blossom, letting a pop sensation coolly filter through your speakers. Subtle plot twists always win the day when you’re stepping outside the expectations.

Our coverage last week was pretty steady, and we got to hear some great new stuff…so here we are with our weekly recap to start off your post holiday blues at work. We got some great ATH favorites offering up new stuff, with Winter and Phantom Handshakes getting fresh tunes out there. We also ran some great footage from Constant Follower of their performance atop a monument in Scotland, which I highly suggest you getting into, so I threw a jam in there from that performance. Lot of great stuff, with over an hour of jams to whet your whistle this morning.

RE Seraphin Shares Stuck in Reno Video

RE Seraphin just recently released the Swingshift EP, but the world doesn’t stop once you drop a release; you’ve got to tour and promote and tweet and all that jazz. So, today, we’ve got a new video for the single “Stuck in Reno,” bringing in a mixture of jangle and twang…surely a nod to Seraphin’s time spent down in Texas (right?!). This song has a nice little backing vocal track that really raises the bar on the melody, giving a soothing charm to the groove. If you’re into what you hear, its available in 12″ and Cassette formats via Mt. St. Mtn./Dandy Boy/Tear Jerk/Safe Suburban Home. Also, be sure to catch the band running up the West Coast in mid-July with Tony Jay!

Constant Follower Share Live Footage from National Wallace Monument

For some time, I’ve been singing the praises of Stephen McCall and Constant Follower; seeing the band perform in a church at SXSW was, well, spiritual, as we expected. Unfortunately, I didn’t see you all, so instead I’m really pleased to share some special live footage recorded at the National Wallace Monument in Scotland, featuring three songs from the excellent Neither Is, Nor Ever Was LP. McCall’s voice has this purity to it, as you’ll hear, seemingly ready to shatter into pieces the moment you reach out to touch it. As for the recording, there’s such patience in their togetherness, each note serving to carry the song’s lofty goals to near perfection. Take a listen, and be sure to go back and visit the LP, if you haven’t.
