Wand Moves To Drag City/ Shares New Track

wandFor what is going to be their third full length album in a little over a year, Wand has returned with a new single as well as news that 1000 Days will be released through Drag City. This single, “Stolen Footsteps” is an eerie psych track that hinges on a mellower sound than we’ve heard from the group, but one that definitely caught my attention. If you watch the video, you’ll hear the subtler sound, but then there’s Cory Hanson’s enticing vocals that hook you in while fuzzy synths ground the song. Get ready for another great release from these guys coming September 25th.

ATX Spotlight: Reservations

reservationsAfter seeing Reservations live a few months ago, I’ll admit they’d slipped my mind a bit, but when I saw that these locals were getting ready to release their debut full length album and had their lead single up for release I was brought back to the reality that this three piece outfit is something to shout about. The music video below is for the song “Planet” and it features stop action creatures who appear to have been enslaved. Regardless, the song that accompanies the music video is the main attraction in my eyes. Lead singer Jana Horn commands the track with her delicate yet utterly transfixing vocals while crunchy keyboards, subtle electric guitar and bombastic drums create the perfect electro-folk track. Once you hear this song you’ll be excited for Taking Time, which is out July 24th.

*If music videos aren’t your thing, the song is also here on soundcloud.

School In The Middle Of Summer!

theschoolWell, lucky for you, not exactly. More like Cardiff pop band The School have released a killer single (for free!) from their upcoming record Wasting Away and Wondering that’s due out September 4th from Elefant Records. Now, a few months back I shared with you another great single from these folks and here we see the continuation of the perfect indie pop retro sound from the group, including a nice little string breakdown near the end of the track and horns throughout. “Do I Love You?” has got that sunny Camera Obscura meets She & Him and the music video is a perfect demonstration of what I wish I looked like dancing around my bedroom to this sunny pop song.

Tedo Stone Will Rock Your Tuesday

tedo stoneI had intentions to post this track last Friday to get you hyped for the weekend, but life happens and I’m sure you were fine with hype levels. Now that we’re in the midst of another week I bet you could use a little bit of rock to get you through the afternoon. “To The Marshes,” from Atlanta’s Tedo Stone is a great blend of all out rock and roll with touches of garage and hints of that lo-fi production that is perfect for a hot summer day. This track is taken from the band’s upcoming release of Marshes which is due out September 18th from This Is American Music.

Folksy Tune From Canary

canaryIt may be a Tuesday, but I’m still trying to shake the weekend off, which means I’m in the mood for tunes on the folksier side of things. This track, “Women’s Business” from Australian band Canary is a great example of such a song; from it’s subtle beginnings to its growing arc, I’m fully on board. Eerie little waves of distortion flutter in and out of the mix with simple vocals and acoustic guitar strumming to start, but then the band adds in some clacking percussion to spice up the track a bit as the vocals show their strength and the song grows and expands. Have a listen and go scoop the track up for free over here.

More From Jack + Eliza

jack:elizaLush male/female harmonies and retro surfy guitar? Sign me up. Jack + Eliza may have already grabbed your attention with their single “Oh No,” that Ray shared with you a little while back, but if not, now is the time to discover these two and get on board. I’m loving really everything about this track; the way the vocals seem to dominate the whole track with one harmony crashing into the next effortlessly while the guitar riffs give you that ‘boat dock at sunset’ vibe. I can’t stop spinning this song and now I’m properly excited for the band’s debut full length release of Gentle Warnings, which is out August 7th.

Los Colognes Bridge Country and Indie

loscoloLos Colognes are a group of gentleman from Nashville who have been around for quite some time, but in recent years redirected their focus on to refining their sound. They’ve got a new album on the horizon called Dos which is due out September 4th via Theory 8. From the sound of this single below, “Backseat Driver” it sounds like we can expect the band to walk the fine line between jangly indie rock and bluesy alt country. The vocals are slightly Dylan-esque while the honky tonk piano blazes through and trades off with the electric guitar.

Breezy Indie Rock From The Walters

thewaltersThe Walters come out of Chicago with their sea-breeze indie rock and in they come off the release of their debut EP last year with this new single, “Hunk Beach.” At first, the song sounds pretty mild: while the guitar licks hint at a little fire from the band, the vocals are soft. They remain this way as the gentlemen serenade you with their harmonies, but don’t be too fooled, the track really kicks up towards its close and blossoms into a full on beach rock jam.

Talking Bush Nails It

talkingbushIf you notice something is coming out through Shelflife Records, chances are high that it’s going to be damn good. Such was the case when I found Talking Bush and their brand spanking new Ordinary Unusual EP. Talking Bush is the project of a young Russian gentleman whose sound evokes that of The Smiths mixed with a little bit of dream pop. Right now, I’m currently having a hard time figuring out which track I want to post from this EP, so you’re gonna want to head over to their soundcloud and then the Shelflife page to pick this bad boy up.
