OK Cowgirl Shares Little Splinters

Sometimes the nostalgia bug can hit us all from time to time, and that’s the feeling I get when I listen to “Little Splinters” from Brooklyn based outfit OK Cowgirl. The track gives off a strong, late 90s alt-rock vibe with the distorted, power chord driven guitar and steady drum beat. Of course the vocals from Leah Lavigne provide an additional emotional force to be reckoned with throughout. Check it out and you’re welcome.

A debut LP from OK Cowgirl entitled Couldn’t Save Us From My Gut is due out August 16th via Easy Does it Records.

Another Hit From Been Stellar

NYC based indie group Been Stellar is coming in hot this year with what might just be one my most anticipated and top releases of the year. Already we heard the jam “Sweet” back in April, now the band return this month with yet another hit called “Pumpkin.” Is it just me, or does this band give off a strong aura of Nada Surf circa the Let Go era? You certainly can hear hints of the inspiration with a delicate take on the vocals mixed in with the slightest hint of folk and a dash of shoegaze. I am here for every ounce of it.

Been Stellar will release new album Scream From New York, NY on June 21st via Dirty Hit.

Milly At it Again

If you were paying attention to our website back in 2022, you may have noticed a multitude of posts about the Los Angeles based band Milly. Likely due to our newfound love and resurgence for the post-emo days, the band has straight hit a chord with me personally and turned me into a forever fan. This year the group has another sure to be stellar album planned for summer which will feature this new single “Spilling Ink.” You can give me a million more songs just like this one and it’d be a solid day for me.

The new album from Milly entitled Your Own Becoming will be out on June 28th via Dangerbird Records. Pre-orders are live now!

Cardinals Share New Single Nineteen

So Young Records started off as an offshoot of the magazine of same name and the label has grown and added an impressive roster of up and coming artists. With such buzzing bands like Humour, Been Stellar, and Slow Fiction to name a few, the label is building into something great. A recent addition to the roster, Ireland based Cardinals, just dropped this short and powerful new single “Nineteen” today. Though the song comes in at under 2 minutes, I’m sure you’ll find yourself hitting repeat at least more than once as soon as it’s over.

Cardinals will release this track as part of a new self-titled EP which is due out on June 7th via So Young Records. Pre-orders are live now.

New Single & Video From Love Fiend

Well we are cruising through another wild week after coming down from the Record Convention, and the new tunes just keep flying our way. If you’re down for a little kick of energy and fun, I suggest you check out this new track “Hard Feelings” from the L.A. based group Love Fiend. Certainly you can hear that quirky new wave sound in there which is set off and given a driving beat with a hint of post-punk. I am sure you will love it.

This new song appears on the upcoming album entitled Handle With Care which is due out on July 12th via In the Red Records. Pre-orders are up now.

Bats & Mice Return!

If the band name Bats & Mice doesn’t immediately ring a bell, I’m not sure anyone (including the band) would blame you as they’ve dormant for going on 12+ years. What was a promising career, with the high point being their last EP Back in Bat from 2010, halted shortly after with the band pausing all creative output to focus on life and other projects. Luckily for all of us fans, the Chapel Hill lads got back together late last year, made some tunes together again, and have a full album of material ready for release later this year. Of course an album announcement wouldn’t be fit without some new tunes to check out, so treat your ear holes to this new track “Buried Just Beyond.” This was well worth the wait.

The new album from Bats & Mice, PS: Seriously, is due out on May 31st via Lovitt Records.

French Cassettes Share Megabus

Wow, a quick search on our site shows that is has been damn near 12 years since we last posted on San Francisco based outfit French Cassettes and it seems like high time for us to get back on the hype train. The band has really taken shape and evolved over the years, with a more purposeful and calculated approach to writing songs. Hard evidence of the evolution can be heard in this new single “Megabus” which highlights a playful, yet expert level lyricism from songwriter Lorenzo Scott Huerta. Hopefully the track can provide some mellow vibes for the rest of your day.

This trick appears on the new album from French Cassettes entitled Benzene, which is out on June 7th via Tender Loving Empire.

Check Out Shapeshifting From Human Interest

London based dup Human Interest really came on to my radar with a force late last year with the release of their stunning EP Empathy Lives in Outer Space. Of course I’ll give a band my full attention once they’ve got a hold of me so I of course immediately had to click play on this new track “Shapeshifting” after receiving it this morning. I dig how the track sort of lulls you in for the first 20-30 seconds of mellow atmosphere, but then blasts off with some driving indie pop with absolutely stellar vocal harmonies. Could they make it 2 for 2 on year end lists? Probably.

This track is part of a new EP entitled Smile While You’re Losing which is due out on September 6th via Nice Swan Records.

New Tune From Moon Tide Gallery

Often times I am finding myself constantly on the lookout for something new, different, and/or unique in the music world. The young Baltimore based songwriter and producer Mason Gainer has hit on something today with this new single “Venus Fly Trap” under his recording moniker Moon Tide Gallery. While listening to the song for the third or so time this morning, I keep getting this sort of Chemical Brothers beat paired with something a touch more washed out and shoe gazy like MX Lonely. Hopefully it will give you a little touch of creativity for your Monday.

This track is part of a new EP entitled Stop Looking at Me Like That due out in June.

The Donnas + Real Gone Music

As many of you maybe waited in ridiculously long lines on Saturday for your Record Store Day gems and must haves, I thought it might be an appropriate time to focus on one of my favorite reissue focused labels who won’t gouge or pander to resellers. Of course I’m talking about the Orange, California based label Real Gone Music who have seen many features on these here pages over the years. They have been absolutely killing it recently with thoughtful reissues which won’t require 4am wake up times and certainly won’t drain your bank account. If you care to read on, hit the jump (I promise to keep it short).
