Premiere: Blanket Fort Shares Rubber Waves

When we start looking out into the music world for music to share, we typically take pause and try to share things which might be considered a little left of center or unique. One such piece of music that has caught my attention is this new single called “Rubber Waves” from Charlotte based artist Blanket Fort. As you listen, prepare for a sonic journey of sorts, which starts with a really slick bass groove and then twists and turns slowly into a little quirky and noise rock jam. Each listen is sure to reveal something new.

Blanket Fort will release new album Rejoice! on March 10th via Friend Club Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Object of Affection Share Run Back

Los Angeles based outfit Object of Affection is a bit of a supergroup with members from Death Bells, Fury, and La Bonte. One can really hear those influences pulled together to create something wholly their own, unique and refreshing. Buzz has certainly been building for the group recently, and though we may be hitting the hype train a little late, this new tune “Run Back” is simply too much of a banger to not post today. It’s an 80s pop influenced jam with those little hints of post-punk edge likely coming from the old days of Death Bells. Hit it.

Object of Affection will release new album Field of Appearances this Friday via Profound Lore Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Get A Lil Rowdy with Dust

We are easing into the weekend over here in the ATH offices and we were hoping to maybe tear you away from that Gorillaz stream for a second to check out this new up and coming Australian band dust. For me, I am loving this new wave of alternative punk bands in the scene like Shame or Idles, but these Aussies seem to offer a bit more melody and ever so slight pop tendencies to makes things more upbeat and engaging. Their new single, “Ward 52” is a surefire way to kickstart one of our last free weekends before the madness hits. Stay strong.

Pre-orders are now live for the debut EP from dust entitled et cetera etc via Kanine Records.

Meet the SXSW Band: Orions Belte

Now that we are starting to churn out some of these SXSW previews, you can sort of start to feel the excitement growing for the festival. Say what you will about the current state of things either in Austin or with the festival itself, we will still support these artists and have a good time all week. While you’re out there looking for some new bands to follow or check out, might I suggest the Norwegian trio known as Orions Belte. You can scope their interview along with music and current SXSW dates after the jump.

Cruush Share Stick in the Mud

We get sent a lot of songs during the day and very few will make me pause and start it over like this new one called “Stick in the Mud” from Manchester based cruush. Some may immediately call this shoegaze, which I guess it is, but it’s also super sludgy and dark and just downright nasty at times with the deep, vibrating sounds. I am loving the subtle heaviness of this track today.

Cruush will be releasing a debut EP entitled Wishful Thinker on April 14th via Heist or Hit.

Meet the SXSW Band: Pendant

As we mentioned in our premiere post yesterday, that ‘lil festival called SXSW is going down in just a few short weeks and we at ATH are trying to support bands and artists as best we know how. Before we head to their shows and buy some merch, the best thing we can do is simply talk to the artists and get their varied perspective on what it means to play SXSW. Today I am thrilled to be sharing the next artist in our series, PENDANT, which is the musical moniker for Los Angeles based recording artist Christopher Adams. He offered some truly thoughtful and detailed insight into the festival. See his response along with tunes and current show dates after the jump.

Meet the SXSW Band: Dream, Ivory

Well SXSW has somehow snuck up on us once again and things will be kicking off in less than a month now with the usual mass influx of artists coming to town. I’m sure everyone has heard the chatter this year about artist fair pay, and we totally support the movement in full, but in the immediate future we have bands coming to town, and we want show our support however we can. One way we can do that as a music site is to give them a platform to introduce themselves and even get their opinion on the fight for fair pay. Today we are kicking off our initial coverage with an introduction and interview featuring SoCal based band Dream, Ivory. Hit the jump for interview, music, and initial set times.
