Levitation Interviews: Cloud Nothings

Say what now, two interviews in one day!? That’s right my peeps, we weren’t done for the day and have one more interview before you head out the door later to Levitation Festival in downtown Austin. Our second interview of the day comes from an old ATH favorite, the Cleveland based band Cloud Nothings. We interviewed them almost 10 years ago at Fun Fun Fun so this should be a nice revisit and a Happy Anniversary post. Cloud Nothings play tomorrow night at Hotel Vegas and tickets are not yet sold out. Get some! Hit the jump for interview, set times, and music.

Levitation Interviews: A Place to Bury Strangers

Remember yesterday when I said Levitation is going down this weekend in Austin? Well it started last night and will continue throughout the weekend, so if you don’t have plans, go check out some live music and support local businesses. Not everything is sold out yet, including a nice lineup tonight featuring Black Angels, Ringo Deathstarr, and old time ATH favorite A Place to Bury Strangers. Prior to this night’s event, we sent Oliver our Levitation Festival questions and he was kind enough to answer them. Hit the jump for responses, set times, and music.

Show Pics: Idles @ Stubb’s

After over 2 years of being a home body and living with anxiety, mixed with a dash of unease, it was an overwhelmingly cathartic experience to get out of the house to see live music again. Seeing old faces, visiting old haunts, and of course being treated to an incredible live set by one of the best live bands around, Idles. I’d say BGray and I were like little kids going to a show for the first time. Hit the jump for a few thoughts and some fancy photos from BGray.

Penelope Isles Deliver Another Hit

The Brighton based brother/sister songwriting duo Penelope Isles have long been a running favorite around the ATH offices, so naturally we are incredibly excited for their upcoming album. Hopefully you will share in our excitement with the band’s latest single entitled “Terrified” found below. For me, these new singles, and this new album, truly show a band growing into their sound with more pop sounds blended in with their already dreamy, sort of shoe gazy, indie rock vibe. This will likely be near the top of our year end lists.

Penelope Isles will release new album Which Way to Happy on November 5th via Bella Union. Pre-orders are live now.

More Music From Good Morning

Melbourne based lads Good Morning have really been getting out attention over the last several years with a steady stream of solid releases and singles. Just last month, Nate the Tank shared with you the bands latest single, “burning”, and it’s caused quite a stir around the ATH offices about the upcoming new LP. With the release date for Barnyard now drawing near, I suggest you check out this new track, “depends on what i know”, if you have yet to tune your ears towards their sound. You should enjoy the simplicity of Good Morning’s brand of indie rock while appreciating the slickness of the bass lines and groovy, laid back nature of the song. Now you know.

New LP Barnyard will be available on October 22nd via our friends over at Polyvinyl. Pre-orders are live now.

Alternative Milks Share Shops

Bristol based band Alternative Milks are relatively new to the music scene, but surely a group you will be hearing a ton more about this fall. Most of their music would fall into the genre of post-punk, though after a listen to this new single, “Shops”, you’ll see why the band sort of defies general classification. With an inspiration from punk, or post punk, Alternative Milks take the somewhat tired genre and offer these small hints of pop music and a little playfulness to really make the song enjoyable to all music lovers. You’ll find “Shops” to be a tad silly but also fun as hell.

Infectious New Single From Wasuremono

Wiltshire based group Wasuremono released their catchy, dream pop inspired LP Let’s Talk Pt. 1 earlier this year, but surely you had to know a Pt. 2 was still in the works? Sure enough, the band has just announced the release of Let’s Talk Pt. 2 coming in January of next year via The Wilderness Records. Prior to the release this winter, Wasuremono dropped this new single entitled “Hi!” today and it’s already improving my overall mental state this morning. It’s a truly infectious bit of pop music with just enough quirk and silliness to keep it interesting and incredibly catchy.

Shout Out Louds Are Back!

Shout Out Louds hold a dear place in the hearts of the ATH staff as they were truly one of the very first artists we covered and talked about back in the early days of our site. The group has some of my favorite indie music and albums from the last 10-12 years and they are just consistently great with everything they put out. Today the band announced their 6th studio album entitled, House, and also shared this stunning new tune “As Far Away As Possible”. As a long time fan, this sound shows a band who have grown and matured over the years from an indie pop band full of brightness and more into a fleshed out, tight band. It is really lovely.

House will be out on February 18th via Bud Fox Recordings in Sweden.

Sweet Serenades Return

Martin Norvdall is a guy who has been through a lot over his musical career and his time growing the name of his musical project known as Sweet Serenades. What was once a duo/group who played decent sized venues with songs in major TV shows, suddenly changed direction into a one man last year with the release of the highly underrated LP City Lights. Norvdall has certainly pivoted from the more indie rock vibe he started with and turned into a more dream pop focused sound which is highlighted particularly well on this new single “Go Go Go (Forever Young)”. For me, I think this could be the start of some truly great things in the future for the hard working artist. Enjoy this one now and be ready for more new tunes coming soon!
