Welcome Back Rogue Wave

Wow, it has been quite a long time since we last wrote about Oakland based homies Rogue Wave. They’ve been mostly silent the last couple of years, but return today with this lovely new track called Aesop Rock. For me, it’s a nice return to some of their hook laden, catchy rock numbers from earlier albums like Asleep at Heaven’s Gate. It reminds me of why I used to really dig this band and draws me back into their infectious sound.

With this single release Rogue Wave is asking fans to donate to the Tipping Point Community – an Oakland-based organization raising money for families in need throughout the Bay Area during these difficult times.

Upbeat Number From Vistas

As the long quarantine continues, I’m willing to bet that some of you may begin finding yourself in a less than ideal mood at times. We’ve all been there right? Well luckily we have some help from our friends in the Edinburgh based band Vistas with their upbeat new single “15 Years”. This song is a straight up engaging mixture of New York rockers like The Strokes blended perfectly with a more pop rock, anthemic sound. The video below is also a special one as it features home footage of the band’s many fans lip syncing to the song during this extended time in lockdown. What was originally planed for filming in Austin during SXSW has actually turned into something truly special and unique after the festival cancellation. It should hit you in all the feels. And hey we interviewed them before SXSW!

Vistas will release their debut album Everything Changes in the End on May 29th via Believe.

Have Another From Other Lives

Nathan and I are obviously very much looking forward to the new album For Their Love from our Oklahoma friends in Other Lives. Already we’ve shared new singles “Lost Day” and “Hey Hey I” from the upcoming full length, and now today we have this final single called “We Wait”. Of the 3 singles, this one is easily the most haunting, dark and somewhat ominous at times. The ATH team guarantees you will thank us after checking out the new album For Their Love dropping on April 24th via ATO Records. It will likely be one of our favorites this year.

Fun Bit Of Pop From BUNNI

BUNNI is a lo-fi rock/pop band brought to you by the Berlin based musician Bunyamin Eroglu. He has been working hard recently to put together a 10 song album full of quirky bits of pop music infused with equal parts MGMT style synth beats and the intimate songwriting approach of Girls. A sampling of his style can be found below in the form of new single “Taste for Life”. It’s a fun and breezy song which blends those lo-fi elements beautifully with a catchy as hell beat. You’re sure to love it.

BUNNI will release new album Transit on April 23rd.

Electro-Pop Number From The Sweet Serenades

I’ve been plugging away about Sweden based The Sweet Serenades for almost as long as our website has been around. During that time, the band has evolved and changed direction several times while still managing to keep me interested and engaged. Now the band has become a one man band of Martin Nordvall with founding member Mathias Nslund departing the duo in 2014. With that loss, the band has once again evolved to feature a more electronic, atmospheric sound, as evidenced by this new single “City Lights”. It’s definitely more focused on the electronic, pop side of things though still catchy and slow dance inducing just like some of the old favorites that first drew me to this band. For me, it seems like a natural progression to arrive at this more mature sound after years pumping out great music.

The Sweet Serenades just released new album City Lights last week. Orders for the album are up here.

Hella Catchy New Day Wave Tune

Though it’s been a hot second since we last posted on Oakland based Jackson Phillips and his project known as Day Wave, we’ve shared tons of his songs over the years. Today we are treated to a hot new track called “Potions” from the Cali based artist and it is a real delight to listen to on repeat. For me it has that Cali, indie pop sound similar to old school The Drums or even some of the earlier Day Wave tracks that originally revolutionized the genre. You’ll find that this song will perk up your mood in these strange times.

Day Wave is releasing a new EP entitled Crush on April 24th via [PIAS].

Have Another From Catholic Action

The new album, Celebrated by Strangers, from Glasgow based band Catholic Action is surely going to be one of my favorites of the year. With the album coming out on Friday, I don’t have much time left to hype it for you, but we do have this one last single to share called “I’m No Artist”. This one still has that bit of a dancey vibe while offering more in the way of loud and edgy guitar mixes. And hey, those guitar solos, hot damn!

If you’re into it, order yourself a copy of the new album now via Palo Santo Records.

One More From Deeper

At this point we’ve said just about all we can say about Chicago quartet Deeper and their upcoming album Auto-Pain. A quick search will show you we’ve been covering the band since their very first single release back in 2016, and we continue to share their music as much as we can. Basically, we’re huge fans and we feel like you should also take some time to get into this band. That said, Deeper are sharing one final single called “The Knife” off their new album prior to Friday’s release date. It is yet another reason to get into this band.

Auto-Pain is out this Friday, March 27th and pre-orders are up now on Fire Talk.

Quick One From TONER

Oakland based outfit TONER is a band picking up some praise recently from both us and others in the music blogging world. Their heavier take on the shoegaze movement has been both refreshing and unique in a genre that can sometimes get watered down. Today the band have this new, short track called “Smoov” to add to their building repertoire of impressive songs. It’s a quick one at only 1.5 minutes, but it will offer you a short taste of the engaging sounds this band is making.

TONER will be releasing new album Silk Road on April 17th via Smoking Room. Pre-orders are up now.

Raucous New Single From Home Counties

Bristol based band Home Counties may be a new name to you, though you likely knew them under their old moniker Haze. Now with a new name, the guys are debuting this ferocious and electrifying new single called “Redevelopment”. It features a nice melting pot of genres, seeing elements of jerky late 80s bands intertwined well with a more post-punk sound. Whatever label you want to slap on their sound, you have to admit that it is a truly unique and refreshing style. Stay tuned on more from these guys in the future as they release more music.
