SXSW Interview: Catholic Action

SXSW is meaningful time to all of us here at ATH. It allows us to now only see some great bands, but to also meet some truly amazing people from all over the globe. One of our dear SXSW buddies hails from Glasgow and originally turned us onto Catholic Action a few years ago at a showcase he helped put together. Today I am pleased to share this short interview from the band prior to their appearance in Austin next month. Hit it after the jump.

Have Another From Bleach Day

It’s a dreary day here in Austin and I think I’ve got just the thing to fit in with, and hopefully improve, your Monday mood. It’s called “bbs in the grass” and comes by way of our friends in Vermont based outfit Bleach Day. This one has a bit of a groovy vibe to it, with tons of pop sounds to really engage the listener and catch onto all the subtleties of the music. A little R&B, a little funk, and tons of pop goodness.

Bleach Day will release their sophomore album as if always on March 6th via Birdwatcher.

SXSW Interview: GRLwood

Part of the fun in SXSW is discovering new bands both before and during the festival as you see where the wind takes you. For me, Kentucky based scream pop group GRLwood is one of those new bands and I’m already really digging what I’m hearing. From the small sampling of music I’ve listened to today, I can tell that this band must put on one hell of a live performance. Hit the jump to read their responses to our SXSW questions.

Say Hi To Yune

Isn’t it exciting when you find a new band that just draws you in immediately and yearns for repeated plays? For me, it’s one of my favorite feelings and I’m always happy to share it with all of you. Today my “new band smell” comes by way of Danish group Yune, and their brand new single “Odd One Out”. This one blends some lovely bits of bedroom pop with some darker, heavier bass elements to create a truly mesmerizing single.

This song appears on the Yune debut album AGOG which is due out April 24th.

Upbeat Tune From Catholic Action

Man it’s a busy time of year for me at the moment and it’s sometimes tough to find enough minutes in the day to post about music. It is easy though when one finds a song like this one called “Another Name for Loneliness” from Glasgow based pop group Catholic Action. For me, this one reminds me a bit of my old favorites Los Campesinos! with a stronger pop song structure similar to say a Shout Out Louds. Really it’s giving me good vibes and offering a sort of throwback feeling to a time when we were first kicking off this site.

This song appears on new album Celebrated by Strangers due out March 27th on Palo Santo Records.
