Dark Pop From Ganser

It seems like the dark, new wave pop movement is coming back in full force, and as a fan of the genre, I am in full support of the resurgence. One of the innovators of the revival is Chicago based outfit Ganser. The group creates a dark pop sound full of distorted and slick bass lines with synths and emotional vocals to boot. You should definitely check out this new single “Avoidance” to see what I’m talking about.

Ganser will release new album Odd Talk on April 20th via No Trend Records.

New One From Neighbor Lady

I knew little to nothing about Atlanta based Neighbor Lady prior to the writing of this post. What I do know is they have this great new single/video for track “Let It Bleed” which can be found below. It features some impressive, soaring vocals from front lady Emily Braden along with a dark, almost country feel to the music. I suggest you check it out now friends.

Neighbor Lady will release Maybe Later via Friendship Fever on May 11th.

New Rocker From Stimmerman

We’re done talking about how much we’re struggling after last week and it’s time to start rocking again! Getting you back in the rock mood is this banger called “Tough Talk” from Brooklyn based Stimmerman. The group, artistically run by Eva Lawitts, features some loud and rocking guitars with some very impressive key and speed changes. It’s sort of like some old school Cursive if fronted by a female lead singer. Nicely done Eva.

This track will appear on an EP entitled Pleasant Vistas in a Somber Place due out this April.

SXSW Interviews: Common Holly

Who is awake this morning? Not this guy. Myself and the entire ATH crew have emerged from the week of madness known as SXSW and are somehow all working today. It was hella fun, but this is surely the worst Monday of the year. As always, we will be recapping our week here soon, but before that, I have one more interview to run which somehow slipped through the cracks last week. SXSW Interview: Gothic Tropic

More SXSW interviews, all the time, all day, every day. As you can see, we are not messing around with the interviews this year leading up to the festival. I think Nathan and I have rather enjoyed seeing what all these bands have to say about our town and our festival. What I dig most about it is seeing the overwhelming amount of positivity each band brings even if they are on a long tour or a few days between a solid meal. SXSW Interviews: JAGUWAR

I’ve obviously been talking a lot about SXSW recently as I think I’m finally ready to prepare for the crazy events in a short couple of weeks. Part of me prep work is making a list of bands I absolutely have to see, and one of those is German based group JAGUWAR. Their sound blends styles of 80s new wave bands with a more modern, European pop take. Think a little dark pop, a little bit of brooding, and mix in some brightness underneath the surface. I dig it. SXSW Interviews: DYGL

As I comb my way through the SXSW lineup, I continue to find more and more bands to be excited about. One of those bands is relatively young Japanese quartet DYGL. Their songs have this great, almost vintage Strokes style sound to them which isn’t surprising considering their latest album Say Goodbye to Memory Den was produced by none other than Albert Hammond Jr. He’s a pretty big deal, or so I heard.
