Munan Share Fake Love Friday

South Korea is always churning out some incredible left of the dial sounds, and Munan is just another in a long line of artists that have caught our attention. On their latest single, there was an immediate familiarity to the guitar sounds, as it slides right alongside everything going on in the States today. Where they make it their own is turning inward with the vocals, sinking them a bit in the mix while the whole jam rolls over continuously; there’s something in their presence that feels like a little sparkling diamond in their textured sound. Propulsive, and yet, not. You’ll feel yourself lost in this one.

SXSW Interviews 2025 – Hachiku

Broncho Release I Swear Video

I don’t know what’s in the water, but the new Broncho stuff is totally my vibe right now. They’ve changed up the construction, and while there’s clearly their usual pop sentiment, there’s this fogginess that drips across the singles we’ve heard, like the tune below. They even take that into the way their video footage is being shot, incorporating that into the wash of the film. You’ll also find a slight little tonal shift around the 1:40 mark that really solidifies the track’s pop sentiment, twisting it into a momentary bedroom pop gem. They’ll release Natural Pleasure, the new LP, on April 25th. They’ve got huge tour dates from June through August, with a July 18th date here in Austin at the Mohawk!

Baker Island Release Stone Age Riot

When I ran through the new Stone Age Riot EP from Newcastle’s Baker Island, there was something that reminded me of Los Campesinos, though with a more sedated rock presence. Their verses are rather modern, kind of indifferent in their presentation, like the on this single down below; this approach allows the group to really set up the chorus, which is where their boisterous nature kicks into gear. It’s punchy, clearly moving forward as the entirety of the song just lifts off in the chorus; this is what big pop moments were made for, at least in my eyes. Guy Blackman Shares Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

Long time friend Guy Blackman has long been a champion of our site, and we’ve been a champion of his label Chapter Music, as its introduced us to some great works…but today we celebrate Guy and his first solo album in nearly 20 twenty years. This first single from that new album is a sincere pop song, simple and earnest, carefully moving with the narrator’s detailing of appreciating the unsaid in their relationship. There’s something in its construction that reminds me of Jens Lekman at his peak, and yet, the chorus here is stunning, making me swoon. With the years and maturity to look back and realize there’s a new horizon, we wish Guy all the best on his musical endeavors. Out of Sight will be out via Chapter on June 13th.

Ty Segall Announces Posession

I likely don’t jam to Ty Segall as much as I once did, but it’s always nice to check in on one of the most prolific artists progress, especially as he announces his new LP, Possession, today. Our opening listen sees him traveling back to the power ballads of classic rock, working on a bouncing organ and thumping bass to set the musical scene. It’s interesting to listen to a track where Ty’s guitar work is not the selling point, at least not in a lot of the verses, as that’s where I feel like he made his bread in the early days. That said, the latter half of the song sees him break into more of the expected jam territory, letting the guitar free into the world and driving forth with a bit of emphasis. His new album will be out on May 30th via Drag City.

SXSW Interviews 2025 – Delivery

It is upon us and here people. SXSW music officially kicks off TODAY and while most of the ATH staff is stuck at work, you should be out and about or at least prepping for the week ahead. We are super pumped today to finish off our preview interview series with possibly our favorite band coming in to town this week, Australian buddies Delivery. New Club Coma Single

I meant to run this on Friday, but as I hope our friend Geoff in Club Coma understands, that dad life gets in the way sometimes. This Austin outfit is, like many of late, fusing club vibes and rock n’ roll, and they do so with this powerful brand of rock n’ roll, particularly if you catch the group in the live set (like we did at our SXSW party last night). They pull in a bit more of an R&B meets pop in their recording, then drive those rock riffs through the roof when they hit the stage. It’s not an act looking for a crossover, just a handful of great musicians fusing their love of genres into this huge musical delight. Try a sample.

Florist Offer Moon, Sea, Devil

I’m really excited by the forthcoming Florist LP on the horizon; it feels as if it’ll make for the perfect Spring listen, gentle and bright at every turn. This new single epitomizes that spirit, working over a light bit of piano and softened percussive texture; the group uses some little ambient nuances to flesh things out, bring up a bit more presence for the song. Emily’s voice has this majesty to it, particularly in the way it crests and falls so seamlessly and comforting. You’ll be able to get your hands on Jellywish when it drops April 4th via Double Double Whammy.

Club 8 Drop Monthly Single

For the last year, plus, Sweden’s Club 8 have delighted us with pop tune after pop tune, and it looks as if they’ll continue that pattern in 2025, dropping a new jam every month. Their latest single is a little softer in its presence, pulled back from the boisterous pop they’ve worked with…though you can easily connect the dots here. They pull their sound this go round from a nostalgic 80s movie set, setting up that bubbling yacht rock groove, letting the softness of the vocals bob atop the crafty pop waves coming through your speakers. Never a bad single from these Swedes.
