Video: Deep Time – “Gold Rush”

Deep Time is an ATH Favorite.

Given the strong opening set at the recent Mynabirds show and their show tonight at The Mohawk, it should come as now surprise that we would want to share a video they released for the song “Gold Rush”.

The video was directed by Cassandra Hamilton and features frivolous ghosties playing on the left coast. Moreover, this is one of my favorite songs by the band so please check it out.

New Tunes from Twerps

If you remember last year, then you remember Twerps, especially if you followed our site closely.  They had a runner-up best of year song on our year-end list, and their self-titled album also made the cut.  News hit yesterday about a new 7″ from the Australian bunch coming your way September 17th via Chapter Music.  This tune’s a lot more upbeat than what you might have gotten from the group in the past, and Marty seems to be having a bit of fun with his vocal performance.  In my opinion, this band can’t do a single thing wrong with their music, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same after jamming this track.

New Jam from Beast Patrol

With such a ferocious name you might have an intimidating sound in mind when you first put on Beast Patrol, but let me assure you that won’t be anywhere near the actual outcome.  Their debut EP, Fierce & Grateful, is on its way on September 25th, and this track sort of employs sonic similarities to Beach House, but with a heavier swirling guitar and limited electronic notes wrapped behind.  Hopefully people give this group a chance, as there’s definitely something incredibly special happening with this tune here.

New Chad Valley Featuring Glasser

Chad Valley, pseudonym for Jonquil frontman Hugo Manuel, is back with a new single. Equatorial Ultravox EP is an ATH IT Dept. favorite so I have been anxious to see what the follow up will be. Turns out Younger Hunger will be released October 30th stateside, November 19th in Yurip. Yes, we get it first thanks to Cascine. The first track released to the internets is called “Fall 4 U” and features Glasser sharing vocals. In fact, the album looks to be full of collabs including Twin Shadow and Active Child. (I may have just wet myself a little.)

Fresh New Indie Pop from The Hermit Crabs

Indie pop fans rejoice; the Hermit Crabs are back!  Our friends over at Matinee Recordings are about to release another four song EP from the much heralded Scottish group, which is the band’s first release since 2009!  The Time Relentless EP comes out via the label on September 4th, and the first hit from the record is beautiful.  Clearly the harmonies we all love about great indie pop are present, almost from the instant you press play.  They add a nice little touch with a wayward guitar line dancing and twirling around the vocals in the background.  Bet this is going to be one helluva release.

Sweet Rocker from Something Fierce

I’m always down to represent for Dirtnap Records, especially when they come into Texas to dip their toes in our rock n’ roll talent pool.  They’re set to release a one of a kind (1000 copies only/ever) split between Houston’s Something Fierce and Denton’s Occult Detective Club.   I’m personally excited because it signals a bunch of new material that’s supposed to come from Something Fierce in early 2013 (if the world doesn’t end).  Our first listen comes from the Houston act, and it demonstrates how the band has grown up, giving up a tight little effort filled with chugging energy and bratty swagger. My favorite!

Stream New Dark Dark Dark

Merrily Merrily Merrily, life is but a stream. Threes.

Dark Dark Dark will release Who Needs Who on October 2nd stateside via Supply & Demand (preorder via the band hyperlink via the intarwebs). This track is called “How it Went Down” and features a heartfelt vocal by Nona Marie Invie of bandmate Marshall LaCount’s lyrics. Smooth, building, very organic. The Austin date for their tour will be with Emily Wells at Holy Mountain (formerly the space known as Beauty Bar) on October 20th.

New Trickling Track from Mark Eitzel

It’s weird how the music world works, heralding an act one minute and disregarding the net.  I don’t know, I try not to get too caught up in the hype or the hoopla, so I’m definitely going to share this new Mark Eitzel tune with you.  You hopefully recognize Mark’s name from American Music Club, but now he’s going it alone again with his new offering, Don’t Be A Stranger.  This record is coming out on October 2nd via Merge Records, and the label’s thinking it’s going to be his best work in decades…along the lines of Five Leaves Left and Harvest Moon.  Definitely interested to hear the whole collection after letting this song carry me away for a bit.

New Music from Dana Falconberry

Alright, so I’m a few weeks behind on this gem from Austinite Dana Falconberry, but better late than never right? Dana will be releasing her latest album Leelanau on October 12th, and if it sounds anything like this tune below, it’s going to win her a huge following.  Her guitar is quiet, almost muted, but her incredible voice really warms you over.  Her playfulness in the middle of the track helps differentiate this number from your average fare, but that’s what I’ve come to expect from Falcoberry’s work.  It’s such an intimate listen, and one that’s ultimately rewarding. Hoping it makes its way onto your playlist.
