Hotline TNT Deliver Again

Hey, Hotline TNT is coming into town tomorrow at ACL Live and you should definitely join me there! They open up for Hippo Campus and tickets are still available. As if they are heavily promoting the Texas dates, the NYC upstarts also just dropped this new tune called “Break Right” and I am excited for the potential to see it live tomorrow. It leans a bit more into a softer melody at first as it slowly builds into some lovely moments of classic indie rock. Beautiful song.

Hotline TNT will release this track as part of their new album Raspberry Moon which is due out June 20th via Third Man Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Wombo Announce Danger in Fives

This is the news that I did not even know I needed, but my day just got better with news that Wombo have a new LP on the horizon. Their Fairy Rust LP stayed on for quite some time at my house, and this new track sees them furthering their song craft. Every note on this track seems perfectly placed, with the group employing negative space to let rhythmic notes give accent to the guitars. Sydney Chadwick’s voice is this mesmerizing power, drifting dynamically in and out of the tune, curling around ringing guitar notes like a beautiful haunt. Danger in Fives will be out August 8th via Fire Talk.

Pachyman Shares SJU Single

Pachyman is going home, or at least he’s making an homage to Puerto Rico, thus the song’s reference to the San Juan Airport. I’m really looking forward to Another Place, his latest record, as it seems like he blends the sound into something really special each time a release comes our way. This little dub track takes a bit of guitar and stretches it into a vibe that just feels like the hippest strut you’ve ever seen, but at the same time, there’s this indifferent cool that lets you know the world is going to be alright. If you’re willing to take a trip into the cool waters of Pachyman, grab Another Place from ATO Records on Friday!

Meres Share Building Humans + Drop Worried Sick

Not sure what’s in the water this week, but brooding rock n’ roll seems to be my flavor of tea, with Meres just another act creating these dense bits of powerful blasts that have me cranking up the volume. This tune below is from their Worried Sick LP, the debut record the Aussie outfit just recently dropped, and now that it’s on your shores, you’re welcome to turn the knob to the right (or press the + button). I was caught by the slow switch, sort of dwelling in this haunting space for a moment before quickly bursting into the chorus where the band unleash their full force. It had a nice little tease into the release too, with this growling guitar line echoing behind the vocals, setting it all up. Check out the rest of the LP HERE.

Dummy Share Bonus Track from Dumb EPs

When Dummy first burst onto the scene, you could tell they were a band in flux, moving from other projects to create something bold and new; you can hear how far they went in that goal by relaxing to the ambient piece below, one of the 3 bonus tracks available on their forthcoming reissue of the Dumb EPs. According to the group, the song came to be as a reminder about “simple gesture calming extreme anxiety,” which is perhaps still an aim we’re all seeking in this hell-hole of a world. That said, this track takes patience, as life does, so settle in and let the electronic wash splash against your ears, with the band in no rush to hurry their texturizing of the tune. The Dumb EPs will drop via K/Perennial this August.

Fortitude Valley Release Sunshine State Video

Our pal over at Specialist Subject Records have already gotten a lot of ATH love this year, with new stuff from Don’t Worry and Soot Sprite…and now we have more reason to rejoice as they’ve scheduled a new LP for Fortitude Valley at the end of the Summer! It doesn’t take long for the group to embrace the carefree pop rock of similar acts like the Beths, bringing out these huge walls of riffs that get tightened around a really sweet melody. Songwriter Laura Kovic is using the song as a way to reach back and talk to her teenage self, perhaps circling back to reimagine who she is or was. There is no shortage of hooks in this track, and one can assume that Part of the Problem, Baby, will be just as such.

Soraia Drop Alright OK

Not sure what is in the water this week, but this is the second track with either an artist or a song title employing the work “OK.” Regardless, I had a hell of a time listening to this new track from Soraia, who I admittedly know very little about. They’ve got the backing of Steven Van Zandt, but I was just instantly blow away by this huge voice; it absolutely crushes you with its power. Still, there’s this little curve of sweetened curl at the side of the track, which ultimately opens the song up for this magnificent hook-laden chorus, reminiscent of Austin’s own A Giant Dog; it sound like the sweetest riot you’ve ever hit up, so join in while we await the group’s new EP.

Ok Cool Announce Debut LP

I have been missing really solid female pop rock, akin to my personal favorite Weakened Friends…they’re currently on the road (no Austin show?!), so OK Cool get to fill my need! The band announce their debut LP today, and do it with a classic pop rock fashion, though I love them the most when they really stretch the vocals to their most guttural intentions. In the recording process for their debut, they kept the production to themselves, which gave them complete control to bridge the melodic moments with the aforementioned bite, leaving us with these hook-laden rockers. tThey’ll release Chit Chat on August 1st, and hopefully hit the road with an Austin date!

Last Week’s Jams (5.12 – 5.16)

If you just look at last week’s collection in our Album Streams post, you can see it was certainly a busy week out there; there were no fewer than six albums that I adored, whether it was new Gotobeds or High Water Marks or Artificial Go, there was plenty to browse through. But, that was just the albums, and didn’t even cover the great music that popped up on the single side of things. I mean, there was new Jeanines, Ryli, Lightheaded and Whitneys Playland...all of which should have you cranking up your speakers. Some good Austin (and adjacent love) for acts like Little Mazarn, San Gabriel, Gustave Ochoa and Adrian Quesada, so doing our part on the local scene. There’s just too much good stuff out there, thus, you’re required to press play and space out for an hour.

Friday Album Streams: Aritificial Go, Bouqeut, Soot Sprite and More…

Since it’s raining great records, I put some word below so that maybe you can get a feel of what you might find if you press play. Jump below to hear my thoughts, and remember to support the artists and labels behind these great releases.
