I had my SXSW cut short by the day job and related travel. That meant our fine readers would have to wait briefly to check out all of the eye candy from the annual day party held with Side One Track One at Hotel Vegas. I have a big gallery of glorious images and a few thoughts on the day.

The ATH Team had a busy weekend, so we figured we’d wrap it up in one giant post, rather than inundate you with our opinions about each individual day. We were fortunate to host our own show at 29th Street Ballroom with our friends at Cain’s Hot Sauce, so we got in a solid 18 bands alone on that day!

Your ATH crew kicked things off for SXSW last night with a slew of official(ish) events around the downtown area and on the east side. It was great to get the band back together for a short night before the madness really begins today and into the weekend. As always, we try to provide the best coverage we can and hit on things in a timely manner. We didn’t see a whole lot last night, but we certainly had some highlights. Well it is here people, and having been in the downtown area early this morning, I can tell you that the festival has started. So get your last minute prep in and come say hey to us this weekend. We’ll likely be kicking things off tonight somewhere on Red River. Before we lock it up for a few days, we have another interview to share, this time from rising Welsh act Hana Lili. Really just a day or so now before we sort of shut this machine down and head out to cover as much SXSW madness as we can. It’s a new year and I know the crew has a few “must see” bands not to miss this time. Cashier is surely one of those bands on our list, and are seeing a huge rise right now with our indie music community. We are super excited to share their interview answers with you. One of the big reasons I love SXSW is that it brings in a bunch of talent from abroad who are trying to make connections while here in the States. You also get a good glimpse at what’s going on everywhere else, which we might not always be tied into with US press and what not. So, here we are with another great act with a lot of buzz, Congratulations.
Phew, what!? You’re telling me SXSW kicks off later THIS WEEK!? Well yeah I knew that, but wow if things didn’t really sneak up on me this year, more so than any prior festival. So things “officially” start going down on Thursday, but you are sure to see some things starting today and of course into what is sure to be a wild weekend. Wow yeah, so this year has definitely snuck up on us, and somehow we are just one week out from SXSW staring next week. Many of us are still unsure what to expect with all of the changes coming in, and how we deal with the lack of a large, centralized meeting space. Either way, we will be out and about, doing our thing. Our interview series continues today with another one from a band on my personal must see list – The Family Battenberg. As promised, here is our very first SXSW interview of 2026 featuring an artist we are super pumped about seeing – Grrrl Gang. We won’t provide much information on the band, as they can surely inform you better than we can. They provide some great insight into touring, what is currently bumping in the tour van, and why they chose to come in for the festival. See all of that, plus current dates after the jump.
We dance because the stillness becomes unbearable
It seems fitting that the Austin-based electronic/rock duo Almost Heaven took to the stage of Brushy Street Commons on Friday, January 30th, to celebrate the release of their EP aptly titled Raw Cranium, as national unrest took the stage for the world to see. Dance music and dance music culture have historically been a physiological response to constraint – political, social, economic, or cultural. If the response comes in the form of Almost Heaven, we will be dancing our way through these times in the best way possible.
