Ola Podrida opens for Explosions in the Sky in a homecoming show for the local instrumental rock band vaulted to relative stardom because of a TV Show about High School Football. ACL Live plays host as a loyal audience takes in a meandering mix of songs over EITS’s successful by instrumental rock standards career.

One of my favorite discoveries of the year, Nashville based fuzz rockers Paperhead, are making a stop into Austin at the Mohawk tonight. I’m willing to bet that most of you have nothing better to do on a Monday night and this is a great chance to see an up and coming band on the cheap. Joining this promising new group on stage are local promising talent Rayon Beach. Get out there people and discover some new tunes.

Austin boys Explosions in the Sky have been making great music and representing this town for over ten years at this point in their career. They are truly are a great band, an even better live band, and anyone still needing to check them off their live show list should head out to ACL Live on Friday night. Apparently tickets are still available, and our amigo Ola Podrida is opening up so you really have no reason to not be here. Should be an awesome night for live music.

Well it’s about damn time gentlemen! After now what seems like a major hiatus away from the music scene, some of our favorite local boys Built by Snow are getting together for their first show in over 9 months. The guys have apparently heard your cries to play live again and have even made the show free of charge. How sweet. Opening up for the ATH faves will be BBS side project Red Falcon.

It’s time yet again for another Rumble in Austin at Beerland on Wednesday night. This time around we’ve got some great local talent in the form of Beautiful Supermachines, Chronolung, and Milk Thistle. Zach Condon brought Beirut to town after playing Free Press Fest in Houston on the way to Bonaroo. New material is starting to trickle out to the intarwebs, but the older songs show no age as they are timeless. The mix of a little new material with the best of the band’s catalog made for an amazing and sweeping playlist for an artist just twenty-five years of age. Twin Sister came along for this gig at the Moody Theater at ACL Live (what I now call the Bat Cave).

Those who can afford the luxury of going out on a Sunday night, should head over to the Parish for some tunes by local boys This Will Destroy You. They’ve been doing their thing in and around Austin now for quite awhile and it’s about time you caught them in the live setting if you haven’t already. Sweetening the deal for me is opener and long time ATH fave John Lamonica who is currently touring behind his creative and forward thinking new album Volunteers. Be there kids.

As the heat beats down upon us, it’s always nice to find yourself enthralled in a decent evening of carousing with the locals, especially if said shenanigans include a night filled with incredible musical accompaniment. I’m pretty sure that’s what all of us got over at Emos on Tuesday night, with Antlers and Little Scream giving us just what we needed.

Many shows have come through our town, but we wanted to spotlight a local show for one of the hottest new acts in town, Not in the Face. The duo are known for their rollicking live shows, pummeling audience with their straight-up rock n’ roll sound. Besides, you gotta get your hands on their album, as it’s your job (and ours) to support the local Austin scene! Local kids the Strange Boys are about to embark on a cross country tour this summer, but have a show at Mohawk this Friday before they head out. Opening support is provided by Spiked Punch. Concert goers should also stick around after the Strange Boys for an inside midnight show by Grand Champeen. With not a whole lot of solid shows this Friday, sending our Austin friends off in style is a must.
