Show Preview: The Antlers @ Emos (6/7)

Date Tuesday, June 7th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $15 from Ticketweb

Well, we all know about the ride of fame that the Antlers have been on for the last few years, and their latest release, Burst Apart, has gotten acclaim all over the place, including from us.  Now, with the summer season upon us, it’s probably pretty important that we get in as many incredible shows before the heat bogs us down, so you need to make it out, ya hear? And, yet another reason to make it out is the opening act, Little Scream.  It’s rare to come across delicately crafted music accompanied by a truly inspiring vocalist, and such is the case with LS, who you must make it out to see. Come on, every one’s going to be there, and we can’t afford to be left out.

Show Review: The Twilight Singers @ The Parish

After the relatively low-fi, low-tech environs of Antone’s, a show at the Parish was in order. Since the remodel, the Parish has been a favorite for audiophiles that enjoy a light show beyond CFL’s with colored Saran Wrap over them to illuminate the performers. Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s open for Mr. Dullli in his current incarnation with The Twilight Singers. Many friends in tow, Afghan Whigs fans and loyalists to Margot filled the venue on a Tuesday. Continued…

Show Preview: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. @ Emos (5.28)

Date Saturday, May 28th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $12 from Ticketweb

One of the hottest tickets in town this weekend has to be this excellent show over at Emos on Saturday night.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is a hihgly respected act, winning accolades for music both recorded and live.  Then, you have the killer punch in my personal opinion, as Generationals are opening up.  These guys are probably one of my favorite indie pop bands, period. Their songs are catchy, and they always kill it live. Oh, and if that wasn’t good enough, the always excellent Austin band, Sleep Good, will be opening the whole evening.  You have no reason not to make it out to Emos on Saturday.

Show Preview: Here We Go Magic @ The Parish (5.25)

Date Wednesday, May 25th
Location Parish
Doors 800p
Tickets $11 from Frontgate

Honestly, I feel sort of like Here We Go Magic are becoming a local band; those kids play here all the time.  That being said, we’ll gladly have them back any time, as long as they continue to give us great liver performances, and killer music like the recent January EP. They’ll be sweeping through town on Wednesday with another Brooklyn act in tow, giving us all a pretty solid reason to head out to the Parish midweek.  Caveman and Shells (up-and-coming Austin band) will both open the evening, just before we get to the nitty-gritty jam-core of HWGM.  You in? You better be.

Show Preview: White Lies @ Antones (5/24)

Date Tuesday, May 24th
Location Antones
Doors 800p
Tickets $20 from FrontGate

White Lies are a British group who’ve grown up over the last several years, bringing their release of Ritual to the forefront of media all over the globe.  While they tend to get a little bit of association with bands like Joy Division, they really have more of a Killers feel, as it’s definitely not as dark as Curtis and crew.  You’ll want to get there early too, as Asobi Seksu are a band on the rise.  This year they released Fluorescence, and we’ve enjoyed our time with that album; we look forward to their opening slot at one of Austin’s most historic little venues. See you guys there!
