Not too long ago, we shared some info about Austin band La Snacks and their upcoming new 7″ vinyl single. Well the boys have reached the physical release date of their new material and plan to celebrate with a show at Hole in the Wall on Thursday night. The lineup continues to build with solid locals Zoltars, The Gary, and The Calm Blue Sea. I can’t imagine a better lineup of up and coming Austin bands. Oh and the whole thing is a measly $3 so you better be there.

Our lineup this time around is stacked with some local talent in the form of Bridge Farmers, The Pons, and Leatherbag. We have been into all three of these bands for quite some time and feel like some of you need to get on board quick like. Also don’t forget that this event is totally free so you really have no reason not to be there.

British Sea Power has been around long enough to where the odds are most people know their music, and in all likelihood, if you haven’t, you at least recognize their name. We won’t harp on about them too much, but we’re really excited about the opening bands that are kicking the show off. First, A Classic Education is one of the buzz bands of the year, having won many people over with their stylish pop, reminding us all what great music can be made of carefully plotted soundscapes. Then there is Colourmusic, a band we’ve long supported, and loved. They’ve got a new album coming your way in May titled My _____ is Pink, and it’s a big step in a new direction, one that will surely find the band taking over the world. Three great bands, one cheap price? That’s right, Mohawk on Wednesday night.

Well April has finally come around Austin friends and it’s looking like we’re in store for one busy as hell month in the music world. Tuesday night in Austin has several options with Danielson at The ND being one of several great options. Providing support for one of my favorite songwriters you’ll have Jad Fair and up and coming locals Weird Weeds.

Show Preview: Hunx and His Punx @ Emos (4/12)

Alright, so I know there is an incredible show going on outside at Emos on the same night featuring the Raveonettes, but the best place for you to be is indoors with Hunx and His Punx. Hunx just released his latest album, Too Young To Be In Love, which is just chock full of great songs, all reminiscent of early American pop, just with a hint of grime and grit to it. It’s definitely a show where you can get down, dirty and drunk, not to mention enjoying the whole ordeal. Also, you’ll get to see some other solid acts, such as Shannon and the Clams and Fungi Girls, both who offer their own blend of refurbished Americana. Whether you have plans or not, $8 is a worthy price for such a great line-up.

Show Review: Pains of Being Pure at Heart @ Emos (4/9)

After releasing their latest, Belong, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart returned to Austin, riding a wave of credibility and praise. It’s no surprise then that the show was packed, especially considering the opening act, Twin Shadow, had their own wave of hype and adoration. Twas a good night.

Having been a long-time fan of Jason Quever’s project Papercuts, I’ll say I was a little disappointed in Austin on Tuesday night, as very few people showed up to see some of the great music the band had to offer up. Opener Banjo or Freakout also deserve some recognition, as they definitely put me on notice.

Alright, I’m not usually one to call people out, okay, I guess I sort of am, but still, this is a show any hipster/uber-music fan must attend. There’s not a question of cool or hype here, merely a question of going to see one of the few bands who’ve managed to make vitally important and dynamic music since their inception back in the 70s. Nothing else matters other than the fact that you have to get out of your house on Friday and go see Wire! The band are touring in support of their most recent album, Red Barked Tree, which beats out 99.9% of the records being put out today, not to mention the fact that it’s Wire! Alright, I’m a nerdy fan, and I’ve already seen the band, but I want you to go; I want you to realize what a mistake you’ll be making if you don’t go. Just do it. Maybe this track will get you in the mood.
