Show Preview: Wild Nothing, Abe Vigoda @ Red 7 (2/4)

Date Friday, Feb 4th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 from Frontgate

February has already kicked off with some great shows, but I reckon to bet that there won’t be a better ticket in town than this, whether it’s snowing or not!  First, Wild Nothing won over fans last year with Gemini, and continued kicking ass with the Golden Haze EP.  Their combination of bedroom pop and electronica just fits perfectly into our lives.  Then, you have the incredible Abe Vigoda, and since this is their first tour since the release of Crush, you know they’re going to bring their A game.  On that alone, two amazing bands for $8, you should go.  But, because life sometimes can get better, you have two of the hottest bands in town opening with Bali Yaaah and Superlitebike.  Haven’t gotten to see Bali Yaaah just yet, but Superlitebike is ridiculous live.  Do it folks, lets keep each other warm.

The incredibly quirky musician known as Darwin Deez is making a stop on the inside stage at Emo’s on Thursday night.  Joining the man on stage are Friends and Stunts.  Bundle up people, cause it’s gonna be could on the walk there!  While you’re at it, check out a video of “Radar Detectors”, as it seems Mr. Deez does not like MP3s of his music floatin’ around the web.

Anyone looking for a solid lineup of bands on Wednesday night should head over to La Zona Rosa for a headlining set by Tokyo Police Club with Someone Still Loves you Boris Yeltsin providing support.  Making the night even better, opening for both bands is Austin’s very own TV Torso.  Not bad, not bad at all.

Indie superstars Deerhoof are making a stop into Austin at Mohawk on Tuesday night.  The show is getting kicked off pretty early, with a start time around 9:30 for the headliners, so you working stiffs should still be able to make it out.  Opening support is provided by Ben Butler and Mouse Pad, Fingaar Bangaar, and Nervous Cop.  Those looking for even more music should stick around for the after show inside with local music provided by Zorch, Cartright, and Sunset.

Date 1/29/11
Location Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets $10 @ Frontgate

Those crazy bastards known as Monotonix from Israel are making a stop into Mohawk on Saturday night.  Joining the punk rockers and opening the show up are our local favorites The Strange Boys.  I’d recommend the Boys finish and get out of the way so as to not get a butt cheek in the face.  I’m sure this show will be just as nuts as all their other ones.

Show Preview: Hex Dispensers and King Tuff @ Mohawk (1/26)

Date Wednesday, Jan 26th
Location Mohawk
Doors 900p
Tickets FREE w/ RSVP

Okay, you have to go to this.  First, The Hex Dispensers are one of the great bands in Austin, and I think they’ve been vastly overlooked.  It’s cool, you totally have the chance to make up for it.  Then, you can also catch opening act King Tuff, who’s been around for a bit kicking out the garage-y jams.  He recently put out a record with some friends as Happy Birthday, so if you remember that, you remember it being pretty solid.  And, you want the icing on your cupcake? It’s absolutely FREE, all you have to do is RSVP.  So, to recap, you get awesome tunes, and you don’t have to free. No excuses.  Here’s a track from Happy Birthday to get you in the mood.

Show Photos: Get Up Kids @ Emo’s (1/22)

The ATH crew stopped by Emo’s on Saturday night for a show by one of our favorite old school bands The Get Up Kids.  Of course the guys incorporated several of their new tunes while still incorporating a lot of our old favorites from back in the day.  When the encore goes a little something like “Holiday”, “Don’t Hate Me”, “I’ll Catch You”, and “10 Minutes”, you gotta know we enjoyed our time at the show.  After the jump you can check out some photos of GUK and opener River City Extension by Brian Gray.
