Show Preview: Will Johnson @ Catcus Cafe (12/4)

Date Saturday, Dec. 4th
Location Cactus Cafe
Doors 830 PM
Tickets $10 at Door

We’re definitely glad to know that Cactus Cafe will still be around for some time, as they continue to bring us little treats, like Saturday’s show, featuring none other than Will Johnson. Dude wrote great songs for Centro-matic and his own solo-stuff, a bit with Jason Molina, not to mention playing drums for Monsters of Folk for a bit, at least on tour. Us guys here? We love him, everything he does. You can guarantee we’ll be there. You can also catch Some Say Leland opening up.

Octopus Project @ East Side Drive In (12/3)

Date 12/3/10
Location East Side Drive In
Doors 6pm
Tickets $15 @ Frontgate

Octopus Project have long been one of the most creative and innovative bands in Austin who have finally gained some much deserved popularity outside of town.  Continuing that ground breaking mindset, the band has a very special performance of their Hexadecagon project planned at the East Side Drive In on Friday night.  Those unfamiliar with the project just need to know that crazy live video is involved, audience members surround the band on a circular stage, and Octopus Project play along to the music.  A live performance such as this is not something you’ll see very often(they’ve only done it twice to be exact).  You can of course read more about the Hexadecagon project and see video from previous shows on the band’s website.  Or if you’re feeling spendy, the album version of Hexadecagon is currently available in physical form from Peek-A-Boo Records or on itunes for you MP3 fans.

Show Preview: Tame Impala @ Emos (12/1)

Date Wednesday, December 1st
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $10 from TicketWeb

Unless you’ve been hiding out this year, you surely are aware of the great storm that has spread concerning Australian group Tame Impala.  Their blend of psychedelic rock with various texturizing layers has won over every single writer here in the States, and deservedly so, as their record, Innerspeaker, is a joy to listen to, track after track after track.  You’ll find the psychedelia, you’ll find 90s alternative, and I hope you see the layering, such as that used on their album cover. As if this wasn’t enough, you also get to catch the group play with Star Death & the White Dwarfs and Kuroma.  If you’re looking for that other worldly musical experience on Wednesday night, then this is where you’ll need to be.

Tickets $15 @ Frontgate

My favorite band from Tyler, TX Eisley are stopping in Austin again on Wednesday night.  Now normally this would be a tough day for you kids to go out with it being a school night and all, but most of us should have the next day off!  Joining the lovely ladies (and two guys) on the Parish stage are Ives the Band and a special solo opening set by  the younger sister of the Eisley girls, Christie Dupree.  We here at ATH have a soft spot for this band so expect to see us in the crowd.

Pop indie kids Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin are stopping in at the Mohawk on Monday night in Austin.  Joining the guys on the inside stage you’ll see solid supporting bands Lonely Forest and Milk Thistle.  I say start the holiday early with this show to take you in to the long weekend.  Below you’ll also find recent single “Sink/Let It Sway” from SSLYBY which has for some reason never made it onto our site.
