Show Preview: Pomegranates @ Mohawk (11/20)

Date 11/20/10
Location Mohawk
Doors 900p
Tickets ?? @ Door

Those Ohio kids most of us seem to have fallen in love with Pomegranates are making a stop in Austin at the Mohawk on Saturday.  Joining the guys on stage you’ll get two great Austin bands with Oh No Oh My and A Tiger Named Lovesick.  Not sure exactly how much the show will cost, but tickets will be sold at the door and we’d assume they’re under $10.  This is a great chance to see an up and coming band in an intimate setting for super cheap.

Those looking for a party on Thursday night in Austin should head on over to the ND for an event benefiting the Movember Foundation.  Kicking things off from 8pm-10pm party goers will get a live version of The Encyclopedia Show which has garnered lots of positive local press recently.  The Encyclopedia Show’s website describes the set as a “live variety extravaganza…presenting a new verbal encyclopedia entry each month”.  Someone please attend and report back on that part of the show?  Afterwards, you’ll get some solid music by locals Lacuana Incorporated, The Authors, She Sir, and Residual Kid.  Event sponsors will also be raffling off some sweet gift  baskets and other prizes throughout the night.  More info can be seen on that fancy poster.

Show Preview: Tech_Sys @ Scoot Inn (11/19)

Date 11/19/10
Location Scoot Inn
Doors 8pm
Tickets $7 @ Door

This Friday we are very proud to present tech_sys at Scoot Inn along with our partners Massive BeaconSwitched On, Republic of Austin, and iNSECT Records.  Music for the night is of course going to be provided by some of the most badass musicians around town.  The lineup is stacked with Ghost Mountain, Zlam Dunk, Neiliyo, Butcher Bear and Charlie, Florene, Focus Group, Zorch, Fresh Millions, and a Realness DJ set all planned for the night.  That’s got to be some of the best electronic/dance music this little town has to offer!  For only $7, I highly doubt any of you people have anything going on that could possibly be even half as fun as this show.  ATH staff members will also be on hand giving out free side hugs and juice boxes.

Show Preview: Junip @ Mohawk (11/18)

Date 11/18/10
Location Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets $11 @ Frontgate

Now I don’t know what his new project known as Junip will be like live, but I do know that I’ve seen José Gonzalez live and the man can transfix a crowd in the right setting.  Mohawk on what is sure to be a cold Thursday night should be one of those great settings to see the man and his intimate music.  Be sure to get there on time as Sharon Von Etten is an opener you won’t want to miss.  Plus it’s only a two band lineup so don’t be one of those fashionably late people either.

Show Review: Dr. Dog @ Stubbs (11/12)

The rain stayed just east of the downtown, lightning flashing in the cloud line.  Everyone was a little nervous about the weather.  In fact, security joked that the show was cancelled.  Maybe just kidding, but with lightning in the area, I would guess Stubb’s would have to shut down.  Good thing the show went on, it was well worth the price of admission and brief delay.  On to the review after the jump.’

Wolf Parade have easily become one of the best indie bands around and are always reliable for a solid live show any night of the week.  While Monday may be a tough night for some of us, I’d still recommend checking the band out at La Zona Rosa tonight.  Opening for the Canadians you’ll get  Ogre You Asshole.  See everyone there?

Fun Fun Fun Fest In Pictures, Pt. 2

Before our Fun Fest weekend began, we here at ATH had a small panic attack when we realized that some of our favorite photographers wouldn’t be shooting for us at the festival.  What is one to do when in such a pickle?  Well we sort of lucked out and happened to meet a friend of a friend who works as a videographer/photographer for a living.  Imagine the luck!  Making this deal even better, our new found photo friend also already had his very own pass for the weekend.  Sometimes things just turn out the way they’re supposed to.  So without further ado, we’d like to introduce Bradley Montesi, newest member of the ATH team.  Below you can check out some of Brad’s fancy work from the Fun Fest weekend.  Follow the jump for more.
