Most of us have fully recovered from Fun Fest by now and are already looking forward to our year end lists and holiday plans. We here at ATH are also beginning to wrap our Fun Fest posts and wanted to do that by sharing some of our favorite photos from the weekend. To this local music writer, it seems like Dr. Dog and Here We Go Magic should just move to Austin with how much they love playing here. Seriously, doesn’t it seem like both these bands were JUST here? Regardless, you’ve got another chance to catch both of these bands in the live setting at Stubbs on Friday night. Both are most definitely worth the price of admission.

It’s time again for another edition of the Hoot Night series at Thunderbird Coffee put on by Giant Steps Production. This fine evening 5 local bands will be covering the classic 1998 Pixies album Surfer Rosa. Providing their unique take on these bands you’ll get Hollywood Gossip, Bike Problems, Darling New Neighbors, Beautiful Supermachines, and Hymnals. Hell people, it’s free!

It’s that time again for another Rumble in Austin at Beerland with some of our favorite local bands. Thursday night is a busy one in the Austin area with many options for some sweet pre-Fun Fest kickoff parties. The annual Local Music is Sexy series going down at the Mohawk will yet again be one of the best events going on. Local talent is the key word tonight with music from TV Torso, Sally Crewe & The Sudden Moves, Watch Out For Rockets, Markov, Rayon Beach, Hundred Visions, Bill Baird, Weird Weeds, Sleep Good, Botany, Dana Falconberry, and Amasa Gana all on this stacked bill! The brand spankin’ new Mohawk website has more info on set times and inside/outside stage schedules. This event is always baller and I’m sure it will be the same yet again.

The weekend is almost here ladies and gentleman and we here at ATH couldn’t be more excited for Fun Fest than we are right now! Sometimes we’re pretty worn out after a full day of music, but we realize some of you crazy kids party late into the night after the festival days. Those of you looking for after shows, or those of you not attending Fun Fest and just looking for some solid music to check out, can see below for an after party list. We’ve got a couple recommendations for each night that should ease your hunger for live music. Follow the jump for more.

Those of you not attending Fun Fest this year will surely enjoy some of the awesome official after parties and pre-parties going down. You can start things off Thursday night by heading to Club Deville for an awesome party headlined by non-festival band Helio Sequence. You’re also gonna get super solid and local treatment with Till Were Blue or Destroy along with some of our favorite locals in Great Nostalgic. With the whole thing being free with RSVP, I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t be here for this. I would suggest early arrival as this will get super packed and at capacity quick I’m sure.

Anyone looking for a good time on a Tuesday in Austin, should head on over to Emo’s for a show by the lovely Jenny Lewis with her BF Jonathan Rice in their duo known simply as Jenny & Johnny. Opening support for their show will be provided by Grandchildren. You’ve also got a chance to see the duo at Waterloo around 5pm for free!
