New Pornographers @ Stubbs (7/23)

Date 7/23/10
Location Stubbs
Doors 7pm
Tickets $25 @ Frontgate

A long time favorite of everyone in the ATH offices, The New Pornographers, are making a highly anticipated stop at Stubbs Friday evening in Austin.  In better news, The Dodos will be supporting the group on this leg of their tour.  Hooray!  I’d also recommend getting to the show early to catch solid opener Imaad Wasif as well.

Show Review: Silversun Pickups @ Stubbs (7/19)

As I prepared for my evening at Stubbs, I pored through several different albums.  A few tracks from Silversun Pickups, all the Against Me, and the solid new album from Henry Clay People. I didn’t know what to expect necessarily, caught in nostalgia for my punk days, but not so amped for the main course. Still, I love a good live show, so I just had to be there.  Follow the jump for more.

Silversun Pickups @ Stubbs (7/19)

Date Monday, July 19th
Location Stubbs
Doors 700p
Tickets SOLD OUT

Well, I’ll be honest, Silversun Pickups is not necessarily my cup of tea; I mean, there are a few catchy songs, but overall, it just doesn’t do it for me.  I will tell you that in going to this show, I’m really excited for the two opening bands.  Against Me is bringing their punk goes electric sounds to the stage as the middle act, and killer nice guys in Henry Clay People will bring their own hot tracks to the stage as the opening band.  Luckily, you can catch HCP at Waterloo Records on the day of the show at 5 PM for free, and we suggest you make it out there, as they’re a band you need to check out.

Delta Spirit @ Emos (7/17)

Date Saturday, July 17th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $12 @ Ticketweb

There’s a bundle of really solid rock shows this weekend, but the one recommendation I can give you is that you need to end up Emos on Saturday.  Delta Spirit is headlining a show in support of their great new album History From Below.  Not only do these guys put on a great show that has one them fans all over, but they are playing with none other than David Vandervelde.  He’s been sort of a shapeshifter of late, originally coming off as Bolan, but trying to go a little softer in his current state.  Regardless, why not go enjoy the night with a couple of great bands worthy of your time?  Exactly, so let’s do this.

Octopus Project @ Mohawk (7/17)

Date 7/17/10
Location Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets $12 from Front Gate

The 101x Homegrown Live series continues their trend of solid local shows with another one set for Saturday night at the Mohawk featuring headliners Octopus Project.  The now veteran locals will be joined on the stage by fellow locals Tia Carrera and Mother Falcon.  After the early show wraps up, the inside stage will feature sets by Record Hop and Sundress.  Anyone living in Austin that hasn’t seen Octopus Project live, needs to get off their ass and make it to this show.  In the meantime, check out an interview we did the guys (and gal) a couple years ago during ACL.  I’m also gonna post an old favorite tune of mine in hopes that they play it on Saturday.
