L.A.X @ The Parish (5/20)

Date Thursday, May 20th
Location The Parish
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 @ the Door

We’ve been playing a lot of the A EP from local group L.A.X, and it’s time that you get your hands on the album yourself.  Luckily for us all, the CD release for the band has finally arrived, and you can find yourself in a hot mess by heading to the Parish this Thursday night.  Expect to find yourself sweaty and smiling by the time you leave, not to mention the fact that you’ll have a brand new disc to spin around the house.  Get there early as you’ll really want to see A2W FreshMillions, as well as Missions. Hope to see you there supporting the local scene.

Hell yeah Emo’s, it looks like you’re getting back in this game of booking top indie bands and we couldn’t be more excited.  Seriously, doesn’t it feel like the venue has made a huge jump in their bookings over the past few months after a short lapse?  Regardless of what you think, the venue has a great lineup of buzz worthy bands for cheap cheap cheap on Wednesday night.  The bill is headlined by Annuals with Most Serene Republic and What Laura Says rounding out the solid night’s event.  Oh and it’s inside so that’s cool.

Fang Island @ Emos (5/18)

Date Tuesday, May 18th
Location Emos
Doors 700p
Tickets $10 @ the Door

Not a whole lot has really been said or talked about in regards to Fang Island, of course, that’s if you ignore their glowing review on Pitchfork.  Their combination of guitar hooks with various electronic touches is precisely what you expect a band like this to be.  They’ve got larger than life swinging melodies, gang vocals (which you know are all the rage) and an overabundance of hooks.  Why wouldn’t you want to be there?  You can even catch sets from other bands such as Hollerado, Zlam Dunk and Agent Ribbons.  The best part seems to be that doors open early, so you can catch some great tunes, then head right back home for a decent night’s sleep. So you really have no excuse.

Caribou @ Emos (5/16)

Date Sunday, May 16th
Location Emos
Doors 900p
Tickets $15 from TicketWeb

For those of you into collage music, and we know there are many of you out there, you’ve got to be salivating at Sunday night’s show over at Emos.  First, you get to share a night with the very exciting Toro y Moi, which everyone loves more than Sleigh Bells (that’s saying a lot).  Then, to close off your night, you get to let Caribou close out your night with a spectacular blend of electronica and pop melodies.  He’ll probably play a great deal of material off his recent album, Swim. Sure, the show probably fits better as music for your Sunday morning, but why not wind down a glorious weekend of fun by closing the curtains at Emos?  Exactly, we’ll see you there.

I will personally guarantee that the Japanther show at Red 7 on Thursday night will bring the damn house down.  Mark it down.  The lo-fi garage rockers will bring Muhammadali, Legsweeper, and Come and Take It while DJ Timmy Hefner spins things inside.  Not too sure on price so somebody let us know if you’ve got the deets.  Rock.

Woven Bones @ Beerland (5/12)

Date Wednesday, May 12th
Location Beerland
Doors 800p
Tickets $5 @ the Door

It seems that nowadays, everyone is jumping back into the Austin music scene.  Recently, P4K raved about our very own Woven Bones, and you’ll all get a chance to catch this dark psychedelic act in action tonight at Beerland.  It’s super cheap, so you really don’t have a reason not to go, right?  To top it off, you’ll also get to see Miami’s Jacuzzi Boys and Austin’s OBN III.  It’s a night dedicated to debauchery, or so the music would indicate.  Regardless, lets go out there and celebrate our local scene.  Also, if you like the track below, go get yourself a copy of Casual Victim Pile, which chronicles our local heroes.

5/7 Shearwater @ The Parish

Last Friday, our incredible photo lady Mary Rehak made her way to The Parish to check out a set by Hospital Ships, Wye Oak, and our very own Shearwater.  Mary claims to have seen these bands more than any living person, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to see them yet again.  After the jump you can check out a short review and some fancy photos from Mary.
