It’s that time again for another ATH vinyl happy hour at Knomad Bar right here in Austin, TX. We will of course be playing only music from our vinyl collections with no digital music allowed. If you’re Friday night plans are looking lame, why not come hang out with us and listen to some great tunes. We sometimes take requests, but only if it’s cool.
It’s Tuesday in the middle of summer, but rest assured, you’ll likely regret missing this show over at Cheer Up Charlies tonight. Flying Fish Cove head into town on the heels of an excellent LP, and a follow-up EP, offering some of the best indiepop vibes this year. I’ve not seen the band live, but have been following the group since their early EP on Jigsaw Records, so my fingers are crossed…especially after putting At Moonset in my Top 10 Albums (so far people!). They’ll be joined on either side of their set by a couple of local heavyweights in Linen Closet and Housewarming. Doors are at 9!

If you’re looking for some alternative 4th of July plans, the best show in town on Thursday night has to be the Yeasayer show on the Mohawk outdoor stage. Always a great live band, this show is sure to bring the house down. Make sure you show up early for an opening set from locals Zettajoule followed by a direct supporting spot from L.A. based Steady Holiday.
Also here is Yeasayer’s latest single “Let me Listen in on You” off the new album Erotic Returns out now on all platforms.

After taking a little break to rediscover ourselves musically, the ATH crew is returning to Knomad bar on Friday for a return to our vinyl happy hour shindigs. The crew will be spinning music from every decade with nothing but hits and bangers for over 2 hours. Fun will be had by all and we hope to see you out!
We love to work with our friend John over at SideOneTrackOne, who also handles one of Austin’s local radio shows, 101X Homegrown. We’ve teamed up with him this week to bring you a show of great importance over at Cheer Up Charlies; you get four incredible Austin acts for the price of a Bud Light at any of the bars on 6th Street. Zettajoule kicks things off for the evening, followed by Yukon Gold, Star Parks and Lowin. It’s important to note here, of course, that Yukon Gold is the supergroup formerly known as All Eyes, but with a new singer. Doors are at 9 PM, with more info HERE.
Operators is on tour right now. I saw them live. You should, too.
Current touring lineup is Devojka, Sam Brown and Dan Boeckner. It is a tight trio across the front of the stage letting you pick if you want drums, guitar/vox or synths front and center for your earholes. I will ruin any form of review by just telling you it was so good. The collision of this band, visuals from the display screen behind and outstanding sound in the venue made for a fantastic night for fans.
DOOMSQUAD, a Toronto trio of two sisters and a brother, laid down quirky disco grooves in their opening spot as a bonus.

Saving you more blabbing about my fandom of the legendary Lawrence, KS band The Appleseed Cast, this is a simple post to remind you about the band’s show at Barracuda on Thursday. Doors for the show open at 8pm with our local amigo Booher opening up the night with L.A. based Tennis System fulfilling the direct support slot. From what I’ve read online, it sounds like the new stuff is killing it live. Speaking of, the band’s new album The Fleeting Light of Impermanence is currently available for pre-order, but I also hear the band have some copies of the vinyl for sale on tour. See you there!
Blue Wave was one of our favorite records of 2016. Radiant Dawn is well on its way to getting the plays from all of us at ATH to make the top albums of 2019. Operators is Dan Boeckman’s currently active project; Dan is a very nice person to meet and talk to about music and all the other things. Devojka, Sam Brown, and Dustin Hawthorne make things whole and this band puts out an amazing level of jam live. I am salivating at hearing them fill the speakers at 3Ten. That’s right, the ATH team had so much fun a couple of weeks ago that we’ve decided to do this Vinyl Happy Hour thing on the regular. We will once again be spinning our tunes at the historic Knomad Bar in North Central Austin. Also expect a variety of great music from your ATH staff members with a little something for everyone. And of course, we play only vinyl!
Last weekend, we welcomed a new comer to the Red River Cultural District in the form of KVRX Fest. While KVRX has long been a staple in our Austin music scene, this was their first go round of a festival of sorts and they came in hot, booking 40 bands across two stages to tout the title of largest College Radio music festival. Brian and I served as emissaries for the ATH crew and ventured out for both Friday and Saturday of the festival.
