Our long time friends Whitman have a special show planned at Stubbs Saturday night to celebrate the release of their new 7″ vinyl. This release has been long in the making and features two tracks which were recorded over the summer of 2009. These vinyl singles will only be available for purchase on the Whitman online store or you can pick one up at the show. Only 250 of these beauties were made so get your hands on one quick before they’re gone. Joining in the celebration are fellow Austinites Colour Wheel and White White Lights. Be there.

12/12 – The Dutchess and the Duke @ The Mohawk

This here is a story of heartbreak, a story of fallen heroes. The Dutchess and the Duke made their way once again into Austin amongst strong praise for their recent release Sunset/Sunrise. Our expectations were high, and we promoted the show as best we could, hoping many would see the greatness that was D&D. Unfortunately, the night fell far short of our expectations, or mine at least. Crystal Antlers has long been one of those rare bands we like on record and have always enjoyed in the live setting. Trust us and make your way to the inside stage at Mohawk on Thursday night for a set by this Cali band. Opening support is provided by hyped local boys Harlem and Audacity. Should be good time.

It’s always an anxious evening when you are preparing to see one of your favorite bands for the first time. Will they play your favorite song? Will the show resemble the album precisely as you want it to sound? Will you walk away with the same respect as the moment you entered? Such were my thoughts as I spent Friday night preparing to see Ola Podrida at the Mohawk. The bill included Martin from Brazos and local favorites Balmorhea. It looks like the days of us keeping Phoenix in our own little private world are over and getting tickets to one of their shows will be quite the challenge from here on out. Congrats on the fame guys! We of course know you’ve heard about the huge 101x sponsored show with Phoenix, White Denim and Hockey at La Zona Rosa. You probably already know it’s sold out too. You may have even searched craigslist only to find that tickets are scalping for close to $100! That’s just silly. I guess you shouldv’e seen them at ACL. Don’t fret too much kids, I’m sure they’ll be back around sometime.
