It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Austin band The Drawing Board so we’re excited to see that they are returning to the stage at Mohawk tonight.  Joining in for the evening are fellow locals St. David and The Ashes.  Not sure of ticket price but it should be pretty cheap.

I hope you’ve heard that indie radio station Woxy is making a move to Austin and plans to start broadcasting and setting up live sessions in the live music capitol.  We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the crew to town!  To celebrate their arrival, the station is putting on one hell of a party at Scoot Inn on Sunday evening.  The lineup features up and comers Black Before Red, English Teeth, TV Torso, and Martin Crane of Brazos.  You can also expect some sweet drink specials and BBQ, Sweet Leaf Tea, and Titos Vodka.  Sunday evening never looked so promising.

Date 9/5/09
Location Stubbs
Doors 7pm
Tickets $28 From Front Gate

I was just a wee youngling when British glam rockers The Cult got their start, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate some throw back 80s rock.  So if you’re into that sort of thing, make your way to Stubbs on Saturday night for the experience.  Once the headlining set wraps up, head indoors for a free show (if you keep your Cult ticket) by local Austin boys Scorpion Child.  That picture alone should make you want to check this one out.

8/28 Thunderheist, LAX & Vicious @ Emo’s

ThunderheistMany of you might have got caught in the rain this past Thursday evening, but Mother Nature decided to take a breather by the time Vicious, L.A.X., and Canadian DJ duo Thunderheist hit the stage. We all know that Emo’s (outdoors) can often feel like a sweltering sauna, but the humidity didn’t stop concertgoers from making good use of their dancing shoes. Luckily, there was room to breathe so you never felt overcome with claustrophobia as you milled around the venue avoiding puddles. Follow the jump to hear our thoughts.

How can you not want to go see the 73 year old dub-reggae master get his groove on at Flamingo Cantina? Let’s face it, if you like reggae, and I do, you need to get stepping to see Lee Scratch Perry. Dr. Dubbist will also be in attendance. Perry produced the following song, which is one of my all time faves, so if you love it, see you Tuesday night.
