Friday night isn’t too promising for music in Austin, so Rise Against at Stubbs may be one of your only options. Unfortunately the tickets will run you $35 so you better be a pretty big fan to make it out to this one. However, the lineup gets better with Rancid and Billy Talent (who are in fact both still around) providing the opening entertainment. Things get started around 8pm.

We have no idea why such a hyped band would be playing at such a small place, but Dirty Projectors are coming to town at Red 7 on Wednesday night. We also just read that Greg Ginn, like THE Greg Ginn, like the guy that founded Black Flag, will be opening. Opening? Yeah don’t get that one either… Local acts The Laughing and DJ Sean O’Neal will also be on hand for opening support. Tickets are on sale now for $13 but are sure to sell out soon.

Shortly after giving us new track “Hott”, Wheat have another tune ready to share from their upcoming release. This new one is called “Changes Is” and is getting us even more excited about the band’s new album. White Ink, Black Ink is due out July 21st on Rebel Group.

Start your Wednesday night off right by heading to Mohawk for a set by Tortoise with local Austin band Balmorhea providing opening support. Tickets for this one are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Things get started at 8pm. Do it!

We really enjoyed the Matt & Kim set when they opened for Cut Copy so we were of course excited to hear that the band was returning to Austin for a free show. The show is going down at Speakeasy and gets started around 8pm. The list of Supporting acts is quite lengthy with Major Lazer, DJ A-Trak, DJ AM, Autoerotique, and Rye Rye all included on the bill. Make sure you RSVP here and get there early as space is based on a first come first serve basis.

Music fans in Austin get excited for Thursday as the day marks the triumphant return of indie-rockers Deer Tick to our little town. Your first chance to see the band is at a Waterloo in-store starting around 5pm with free keg beer of course. A full on proper set is to follow at Emo’s starting around 10pm with tickets running at $10. Dawes and Shed Alfred will join the lineup for the later show.

One of our favorite acts during SXSW, Golden Animals, are returning to Austin for a night of psych rock at Beauty Bar on Wednesday. Fellow “Golden” act All in the Golden Afternoon will be providing opening support for the event. Cover charge is $5.

If you’re looking for a show filled with the rock, head over to Emo’s on Wednesday night for a an evening of 3 local up and coming rockers. The evening kicks off with our good friends Whitman, so get there around 9:30, drink some beers, and catch their set at 10pm. After that, The Handshake take the stage followed by headliners and Justice Records darlings Electric Touch. The show is only $8, but Do512 is also running a contest to win free tickets for all you cheap skates out there. You won’t find a better local lineup than this!

Emo’s has a nice lineup of up and coming talent on Tuesday night which should be your best bet for the music scene early in the week. Lineup includes indie-rockers Abe Vigoda, Loser Life, and latest Hardly Art signing Talbot Tagora. Tickets for this one are on sale for $8 and doors open up at 9pm.
