A truly under-appreciated new face to the alt-country world, Collin Herring is returning to Austin for a show at Mohawk on Tuesday night. The singer-songwriter will be joined on the stage by Tyler Jordan and Legs Against Arms. Tickets will be sold only at the door for $6. Here’s that song I still can’t get enough of “Punches”.

The great Bill Callahan is making a return to The Parish on Sunday night and we’re hoping you’ll make it out if you missed him when he played at Waterloo in May. Opening support for this one will be provided by Follow that Bird who start things off around 9pm. Tickets are on sale now for $12.

One of our now favorite Austin bands Calm Blue Sea are playing another show at Emo’s on Sunday night. If you have yet to catch this band live or haven’t heard their new record, make a point to do so before the nation picks up on them. Supporting bands for this one are Girls From Enola, Irepress, and Hotel Hotel. Doors are at 8 and show stars at 10pm.

Looking for a way to celebrate your 4th of July in style? Why not make it out to Stubbs for a more than fitting night of music with Explosions in the Sky, Octopus Project, and Wooden Birds! As far as shows for the night go, this really is the best bet. Sure you may want to fire up that grill and drink a cold one, but Stubbs has all of these things and more! Unfortunately tickets are sold out for this one so maybe you can sneak your way in… Doors at 7pm.

This Will Destroy You are a band who are of course often compared unfairly to fellow Texas instrumental band Explosions in the Sky. We like to think of them as a few parts Explosions mixed with some old school Appleseed Cast sounds. Regardless, the band is coming to town at the Mohawk on Thursday and it should be a nice option for your nights music endeavors. Sleep Whale & Power Animal are joining in as opening support. Cover charge is $10 and doors are at 9pm.
It’s finally July and what better way to celebrate summer with a mini-festival being put on by Nylon Magazine at Antone’s on Wednesday night. We call it a mini-festival because the lineup for the late afternoon/nighttime show features 4 incredible acts that should tickle your fancy. The lineup includes showman Patrick Wolf headlining, Living Things, Plastiscines, and long time ATH fave Jaguar Love. Tickets for this big show are only $15 so we suggest you make plans to be there for this extremely cheap show. Doors are at 6pm and first act starts at 7pm. If you don’t like the idea of being at Antone’s for so long, get there early, get stamped, and come and go as you please.

Austin veterans Sunset are getting down at Emo’s on Tuesday and we think you should make it out to support your local music scene. Fellow local and solid bands The Sour Notes and Wild Moccasins will join the band on the stage for what should be a fun night of Austin music. Doors open up at 9pm and door charge is only $5.

Belaire is in Austin band that have been going strong for quite some time now and we really never get tired of seeing them live. As if these Austin veterans weren’t enough, the night has two solid openers in Cryptacize and Black Before Red joining in on the fun. The always steady and entertaining Ben Kweller is making another stop in Austin at Emo’s on Saturday night. Joining Mr. Kweller on the stage will be Jones Street Station and a special acoustic set by The Murdocks. Tickets are on sale now for $18 and music starts around 9pm. A recent local find by us, Quiet Company, are playing a show at Antone’s on Friday night and have some surprises in store. To start off, the band will be joined on the stage by fellow locals The Mercers, Zookeeper, and Wiretree as openers. Tickets will cost you $10 online or $15 for a ticket and a CD. To make things more enticing, the band has a deal with do512 that allows you to get a free 9 song EP, a chance to win tickets, and a 50% off deal just be liking the event.
