Pack AD @ Hole In The Wall (5/22)

thepackad_100As if your Friday night concert going decisions weren’t already tough, here’s another great show that should prove to be your cheapest option for the evening.  Hole in the Wall features a lineup of garage rock Canadians Pack AD, Poppy Austinites The Alice Rose, and local singer-songwriter Mario Matteoli.  Entrance to Hole in the Wall will usually keep you under $10.

Balmorhea @ Stubbs (5/22)

balmorhea13One of our newest and favorite local discoveries of the last year, Balmorhea, are playing another sure to be great show at Stubbs on Friday night.  Pompeii and Alex Dupree and The Trapdoor band will take the stage as well to open things up.  Tickets for this show are $10  from Front Gate and doors open at 9:30.  Friday night is jammed packed full of goodness, so you’ve got some big decisions to make.

Yellow Bike Project 12th Anny @ Red 7 (5/21)

ybp_logo_400pxAustin’s most unique non-profit, The Yellow Bike Project, are celebrating 12 great years of existence by putting on a party/show at Red 7 on Thursday night.  The lineup is stacked with talent and includes ATH faves Shearwater headlining along with Theatre Fire, Red Cortez, Buttercup, and the Yellow Bike Project Gospel Choir.  Shearwater don’t have any other Austin dates planned for the summer so you better see them while you can!  Show starts at 8pm.

Young Love @ Mohawk (5/20)

052009_mohawk_younglove0Many moons ago Dan Keyes used to live and play music in Austin with his hardcore band Recover.  After the demise of that band, Keyes left for the big NYC to start his new dance-rock project Young Love.  High critical praise has been coming over the last couple of years and now the band are making a stop off in Austin on Wednesday night at Mohawk.  Promising young bands Paper Route and The Always Already will provide your opening entertainment.  Tickets are on sale now for $10 or can be bought at the door for $12.  Head out and say welcome home to our man Dan Keyes!

Chaos in Tejas

chaosThe great thing about Austin is that we get the benefit of having our local promoters put together amazing weeks of shows, and this week, Chaos in Tejas proves just that point.  Sure, the bands might be a little bit on the harder/faster/heavier side of things, but there are some great bands; just check out these names: Ted Leo, The Thermals, Harvey Milk, Propaghandi, Strange Boys, Times New Viking, The Business and The Shaky Hands.  All bands that deserve your time and attention…not to mention the other great bands that will grace the stage along the whole Red River district.  A detailed list of shows and venues can be found here.

Crystal Method @ La Zona Rosa (5/19)

Centro-matic @ The Parish (5/15)

centro-matic-460Centro-matic and Will Johnson get all kinds of coverage on this site so we will of course be alerting you every time the Denton, TX band makes it through town.  Friday evening Will and the boys will be making a stop at the Parish downtown along with Monahans and locals Future Cloud and RadarThe Parish should be an ideal venue to see such an underrated and talented band.  Doors are at 8pm/music at 9.  Tickets can be bought online now for $14.

New Music From The Murdocks

murdocksAustin’s very own rockers, The Murdocks, are busy prepping a new album and have a single ready to drop on the music world.  The new single is called “Lords” and will appear on an as of yet titled album due out sometime this fall.  This is also a great time to mention that the band is playing at La Zona Rosa tonight along with fellow locals Rock and Eagles and Oak Is Keeping.  Tickets will be sold for $7 at the door.

Loxsly CD Release @ Mohawk (5/15)

loxsly1Local boys Loxsly have been garnishing a lot of positive publicity as of late and are finally ready to drop a proper LP on our ears.  To celebrate the release of the album, Tomorrow’s Fossils, the band is putting on a release party at Mohawk on Friday night.  Fellow local bands Oh No Oh My, Booher and the Turkeyz (Mike Booher from now dead Zykos), Corto Maltese, and TV Torso are also on the bill.  Damn, that’s one helluva lineup.  Show starts at 8pm and tickets will be sold only at the door.  Here’s newest single from Loxsly “Battalions”.
