This Friday night Austin will be treated to one of the great North Texas bands, as Theater Fire make their way into town. They’ll be playing a set over at Lamberts this Friday evening with Some Say Leland. TIckets to the show are $7 at the door, and you’ll be glad you got to spend your evening listening to the eclectic folk of this great Texas band.

Nico Vega are a band that often get compared to Yeah Yeah Yeahs for obvious reasons. They have a fiery female lead singer, a male guitar player, a male drummer and the sound is eerily similar. We dig it. You can catch this rock trio at Emo’s on Wednesday night along with relatively unknown band Red Leaves. Doors are at 8pm/music at 10. Tickets can be purchased online for $8.

Kevin Devine seems to have been around forever, and his shows are always an intimate affair worthy of your listening. You can catch Kevin tonight at Stubbs playing his most recent album Brother’s Blood. And, you can also head over to Daytrotter to catch a recently recorded set he did for those good folks. Elvis Perkins will be bringing his brand new band Deerland to The Parish on Monday for what should be a nice evening of music. Mr. Perkins will be joined on the stage by Oklahomans Other Lives. Alt-country/punk band Lucero are making a stop in Austin at Emo’s on Friday night. Lucky for all concert goers, longtime ATH favorite Black Joe Lewis will be providing your opening entertainment for the evening. Head out at 9pm for doors and 10pm for music. Tickets are available now for $12.

A longtime ATH favorite, The Paper Chase, are returning to the stage at Mohawk on Friday night. The Dallas band is currently touring in support of their two part double album, the first half Someday This Could All be Yours (Volume One) is due out May 12th. Joining the band for the show will be Haunting Oboe Music and Valina. Tickets will be sold only at the door with music starting at 10pm.

Coming off the huge recent popularity of their HBO series and debut LP, Flight of the Conchords are touring the nation and making a stop at Bass concert hall on Thursday night. This show has been sold out for quite some time now so try craigslist for some buying options. Show starts around 8 with an opening set by Eugene Mirman.

We recently posted a new song by Wye Oak and now we’re lucky enough to have the band stopping through town at the Mohawk on Wednesday night. The Baltimore band will share the stage with openers Pomegranates and local guys Salesman. Doors are at 8pm/music at 9. No word on door cover. Here’s that new song we posted not long ago.

Cinco de Mayo is upon us and some people are of course looking to put on some parties downtown. Apparently one is going on in the block between Lamberts and La Condesa near second street. Information on this show has been hard to come by, but word is that Xemumba alum Los Bad Apples and Cienfuegos will be playing along with Charanga Cakewalk and DJ George. The event is totally free and gets started around 5pm. Food and drink will be provided by several vendors (not sure if they are free or not). Check out the fancy poster attached for more info or head to wikipedia to do some stuyding on the significance of Cinco de Mayo.
Our local blogmeister Ultra8201 is putting on a pretty slick little party this Saturday at La Zona Rosa. The lineup is being kept totally local with hot Austin band Ume headlining along with fellow locals True Widow and The White White Lights providing your opening entertainment. Tickets are going for $8, but if you RSVP at Do512 now, it’ll only cost ya $5. Like you’ve got anything better to do on a Saturday night…
