Jonathan Richman should be one of the most celebrated musicians in the music business, but then again, that might just be my opinion. The former member of The Modern Lovers makes his way to Austin this Wednesday night at The Parish. This is definitely one of those shows you don’t want to miss.

If you’re not hungover from Austin City Limits, or you skipped the entire thing hoping to grab someting on the side, then you are in luck. Electro-pop groud Cut Copy is coming to Austin, along with The Presets. This is one of those shows that most of us will miss, as we’ve been out all weekend at ACL, but we’ll hear from our friends that made it what a great show we missed.
Tickets are sold out online, but there are still tickets available at Waterloo Records. Stop by and get you some.

If your wallet is a little tight and you can’t afford ACL, here are two more free by RSVP shows to check out. Our first show is being put on by Antics and features a DJ set by CSS with several other special guests. This even goes down on Friday night around 10pm and you can RSVP now.
Second show also goes down on Friday with headliners Cool Kids leading the way and Voxtrot joining in on the fun. This event is being put on by Rolling Stone with doors opening at 8pm. RSVP for this one before time runs out. Both shows are rumored to have free drinks…. oh schnaps!
Another week, another free by RSVP show. Before heading out to the ACL festival this weekend, Paste Magazine has joined up with BMI to give you a pretty nice show at Emo’s on Thursday night. Lineup includes Mates of State, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Bobby Bare Jr., and several others. A full list of performers can be read on the fancy show flier. After some stellar Friday shows, make it a weekend o’ music with another sure to be great show by Pinback at Mohawk on Saturday night. Tickets for the show can be bought online for $16.75 after taxes or at the door. Preview the show with one of my favorite tracks of 2007 “Good to Sea”.

The Pecan Street Festival goes down this weekend and the huge lineup of vendors, artists and musicians is yet again quite impressive. The event takes place all day Saturday & Sunday on 6th street in Austin. Headlining band for the festival is none other than Tommy Tutone… Not familiar with Tommy Tutone? Album of the year nominess, Silver Jews, are making a much anticipated stop in town Friday night at Emo’s. Tickets for the show are only $12 and can be bought from Ticketweb. We just discovered that the White Denim show posted on the Mohawk website is actually a free by RSVP show put on by ATX Converge. The lineup is pretty dang impressive: White Denim, Black Joe Lewis, Freshmillions and Belaire will all be on hand. The show isn’t until Friday, but you better RSVP now before the window closes. Make sure you get in line early since those RSVPs rarely guarantee you get in anything. Doors are at 8.
Emo’s is the place to be this week! After checking out Throw me the Statue on Tuesday night, why not make it two nights in a row with another sure to be killer set by These are Powers? Local Austin band, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, will also be playing during Wednesday night’s events. Tickets look to be sold only at the door.
