Show Preview: Wild Nothing @ Red 7 (8/29)

Date Wednesday, August 29th
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $10 from Transmission

I’m sure you’re probably tired of us always raving about Wild Nothing, but I promise you this is a show you need to be at.  I was skeptical at first, knowing the group was mostly a bedroom project, but Jack and his buds totally killed it that night, making me a life-long fan for sure.  I know all of us at ATH couldn’t do anything but rave about it for a good solid month.  Plus, two great ATX bands will help get you in the mood: Boy Friend and Super Lite Bike.  Please get there early to support all the bands…it’s always appreciated.

Show Preview: Tallest Man on Earth @ The Paramount (8/28)

Date Tuesday, August 28th
Location Paramount Theatre
Doors 700 pm
Tickets $30 from Austin Theatre

I can’t tell you how excited I am to see Tallest Man on Earth again, not to mention the fact that his music seems perfectly fitting to the inherent beauty of Austin’s Paramount Theatre.  He’s surely going to play a great deal off his excellent new album, There’s No Leaving Now, but you know he’ll play some gems like “King of Spain” too.  I’m just excited I’ll get to hear him somewhere other than Antones, as I think he deserves a better audience than that typically chatty venue.  Strand of Oaks will be opening the evening, so make sure to get there by 8 when the show starts.

Show Preview: SSLYBY @ Red 7 (8/21)

Date Tuesday, August 21st
Location Red 7
Doors 900 pm
Tickets $8 from Transmission

It’s been a bit of time since I’ve seen Someone Still Loves Your Boris Yeltsin, but having thoroughly enjoyed their recent effort, Tape Club, I think this is going to be the place to be on Tuesday evening.  They’re always energetic, and they know their way around a solid pop track, so your expectations should be high. Oh, and the bill can’t get much better with two great Austin bands, Oh No Oh My and Tiger Waves.  You’ve gotta get there early to see Tiger Waves and support the guys, as they’ve had some rough times on their recent national tour, having lost a van to the ways of the road.  Good pop, good times. Be there.

Show Pics: Little Dragon/Big Boi @Fader #Uncapped

When I get an invite to shoot any Fader event, I usually take it. Fader has a history of being good to press and throwing a pretty solid party. I am pretty sure the party-side of even the most earnest hipster has been corrupted by shenanigans at The Fader Fort.

As part of an ad campaign with Vitamin Water called Uncapped, there are a series of pop-up parties with unknown artists. Each event featured an odd mashup of styles. For Austin, Little Dragon was the live show, A-Trak hosted the dance party and Big Boi made an appearance. The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex played host.

Read on for a couple thoughts and plenty of pics. (great light, btw)

Ladies and gentlemen, this is yet another friendly reminder from us here at ATH about the show we’re sponsoring on Saturday night over at Stubbs BBQ.  We’re honored to have our friends in Saint Motel in town, fresh off the release of their latest album Voyeur.  They’ll be joined by their touring partners Races, which just happens to be another group we adore, so you’re lucky to see two great bands in one evening, and on the cheap!  We hope you’ll come out and support us, and support the bands.
