Kelley Stoltz Returns

TMR219FrontCover550Okay, so it’s not like Kelley Stoltz has been completely absent from the world; he’s done production work for Sonny Smith and the Sandwitches.  But, his own solo career has been fairly quiet since To Dreamers was released a few years back.  We’re excited that he’s returned with a new song, and a new label! He’s signed on with Third Man Records to release Double Exposure, which has production duties from Eddy Current/Total Control’s Mikey…so it might have a different touch than the last album, which Kelley produced himself.   The album will be released on September 24th, and the first single is now available for you to enjoy.

Solid Hit from Best Friends

bestfriendsYou’ve got to keep your eye on the kids over at Art is Hard Records; they’re always finding unique ways to appease fans with great music and great ideas.  Recently they announced they’d be doing an AA 7″ single with Best Friends, and dammit if this first track isn’t just a straight hit.  It opens slowly, leading one to think the band has taken a casual approach, but if you wait, it blasts off into excellent territory that will please most listeners.  Personally, I like the way the vocals are tossed out, almost shouted from a distance.  The seven-inch will be formerly available on September 23rd, but you can pre-order, or just jam out, now.

Promised Land Sound Debut New Single

PLS4_webPromised Land Sound is one of the latest bands to break out of Nashville, and while those before them have had a heavier edge (Pujol for ejemplo), these guys seem to sound exactly like what I always imagined would hail from their cit.  Guitars slide and there’s a blend of americana lurking in it all, but emotional pull in this song is what really sold me on the group.  They’ve completed work on their self-titled debut, which will see a September 24th release date on Paradise of Bachelors.  Dig the sound of the heart of America.

Heidi Alexander is Pruno Truman

pruno-truman-i-want-more-of-youI’ve got two celebrity indie rock crushes.  One is Ted Leo, the other is Heidi Alexander.  I love her work with the Sandwitches, not to mention other projects she’s been involved in.  It seems now she’s stepping out on her own for another project, Pruno Truman.  She’s just released a cassette with Empty Cellar Records, and the single she’s put out is really something beautiful.  The music is extremely light, with Heidi’s vocal stealing the show.  There’s a hint of rasp, and you can definitely tell she’s pushing herself.  If you dig it, and you dig cassettes, you can grab the Amigos EP now.

Americana Rock From Raccoon Fighter

65014This new track called “Santa Tereza” from NYC based Raccoon Fighter is surely something that would appeal to you blues rock/Americana fans.  We sometimes stray from the genre, as we rarely find much interesting to share, but this track is most excellent Bill.  I like the almost psych-rock approach to the genre as it meshes with the rootsy rock overall style of the song.

You can expect a new album entitled ZIL on October 1st via Papercup Music.

Throwback Jam From Into It. Over It.

130807-into-it-over-itFor whatever reason, I’ve found myself being quite nostalgic lately and spinning tracks from the post-punk/emo era like Alkaline Trio, Saves the Day, and the like.  With that said, you can probably see why this new song “Spinning Thread” from Into it. Over it. might be something I’d fall for during my current throwback music mindset.  I immediately hear sonic qualities similar to the bands I just mentioned and that’s doing it for me today.  Beyond that, it’s a great tune with some catchy drums and a near perfect vocal delivery.

Fans can pick up new album Proper on September 24th via Triple Crown Records.

Audacity Bring Us Rowdy Rock

AudacityBack in March we shared a new track called “Finders Keepers” with you guys from Fullerton based rock group Audacity.  Well today the band are offering up another new song entitled “Hole in the Sky” which can be streamed below.  I’m loving the rowdy punk rock vibe exuded by the song throughout its brief two minutes and forty seconds.  Hopefully you’ll feel some of that power as well.

New album Butter Knife will be available on October 29th via Suicide Squeeze Records.

New Album from Black Hearted Brother

artworks-000053537338-9n5adl-t500x500I feel like at this point in the year, I’ve probably helped pay most of the salaries of those at Slumberland Records, but hey, when you’re on fire, you’re on fire.  The label is back with a resurgence, of sorts, this time around, releasing the new record from Black Hearted Brother, the project of Neil Halstead…the man behind Slowdive and Mojave 3.  Perhaps one of my favorite things about this new single is that there’s no use of gratuitous noise, like I’ve come to find in a lot of gaze-noise-core acts of late; it’s purposeful and blending with melodies.  Stars Are Our Hope is the title of this new effort, and it will be released on October 22nd.

Playful Pop from How Sad

how-sad-640What once belonged in the bedroom of its founders is now a full-fledged line-up, garnering lots of praise for Montreal’s How Sad.  Sure, you can sense a bit of those quiet recording touches on their Indian Summer EP, but you can hear exploration and playful touches that help pave the way for what’s been called an ‘unpredictable live” show.  There’s room for playing around on stage, and there’s tons of room for you to enjoy the nuances of good old fashioned synth pop.  The full EP will be released on August 20th, but here’s a sneak peak for your ears.

Spirited New Tune from Kishi Bashi

kishiIt’s been a whirlwind of a year for Kishi Bashi, who won over so many people with his glorious 151a LP.  But, fans of the artist should be really excited, as he’s readying a brand new 7″, which will serve as the precursor to a new record in the next year. I don’t know how someone can listen to this song and not feel some sort of spiritual upheaval or joyous emotion overtake you; it’s this sort of attitude that has allowed Kishi to become so successful and beloved.  The new 7″ will be very limited, and only made available through Joyful Noise Recordings; it will be available on September 10th.
