New Atmospheric Pop From The Belle Game

bellegame-600-1365682226When scouring the internet for music, it’s rare that a song catches my ear like this new song “Blame Fiction” from Canadians The Belle Game.  It’s a gorgeous pop tune that could be likened to Beach House with a fuller sound and more belting style vocals.  I’d assume most readers of the site can get behind something like so have a listen below and tell us what you think.

The band have a debut full length entitled Ritual Tradition Habit due out May 14th on Boompa.

More New Music From Dead Stars

deadstarsJust last week, ATH shared a new song from Brooklyn based outfit Dead Stars called “So What”.  That track perked up our ears towards the band and now we have another great tune from the guys entitled “Waste Away.  You’ll notice that it’s cut from the same loin with rockin’ guitars and a power driving force behind the all too catchy chorus.  Anyone not paying attention to the band last week, better get on board now.

New EP High Gain is coming your way on June 4th via Uninhabitable Mansions.

New Rock n Roll From Heliotropes

20130422-heliotropes-x600-1366644835Here’s a new rocking number called “Psalms” coming at us from all lady group Heliotropes.  The quickest and easiest comparison I could make is that it sounds like The Men if the lead singer maybe had a sex change.  Sound good?  I think so.  If you’r into it, the band have a brand new album entitled A Constant Sea coming out on June 18th via Manimal Vinyl.

Introducing: Yakuri Cable

735063_353717624744872_767844581_nGlasgow continues to be almost like an American version of Brooklyn with countless quality indie bands popping up what seems like daily.  This new act to me, Yakuri Cable, is yet another band from the area that has perked up my ears today.  Their sound immediately makes me think of fellow Scots My Latest Novel as the minimalistic and deep vocals could almost be the same lead singer.  Is it?  Things veer away from comparisons as the band add in some interesting synths in the back and give us a nice little pop rock out with this song “Line of Sight”.

If you’re into it, the band have a full 5 song EP entitled Beginnings available for stream on bandcamp.

Psych Fest Preview: The Growlers

thegrowlersOne of the great things I love about Austin Psych Fest is the way the festival is slowly branching out beyond your stereotypical psychedelia into related territory.  This is the perfect case for Cali’s The Growlers, who do have some lineage, though I think their recent efforts put them well outside that spectrum.  Honestly, this is the highlight for the festival in my opinion; I’ve been jamming to their most recent record Hung at Heart since it came out earlier this year.  It has a definite California feel, especially in the bright ringing of the guitars, which is probably how they fit into the festival.  Or maybe it’s that organ hanging out on the record.

Regardless, if you’re going to be making it out to the festival this weekend, then this should be one of the acts you check out, and if not, then you should at least fall in love with their record.

The Growlers play Sunday, April 28th at the Levitation Tent at 10:30 PM.

Experimental Rock From Krill

Krill-Lucky-LeavesHere’s a fun sort of experimental rock number called “Never a Joke” coming your way from Boston based outfit Krill.  It’s definitely a psych rock type of number with the noticeable jerky nature and at times rockin’ guitars.  The simple, yet driving bass line is an excellent touch as the backbone of the song throughout.

A new album Lucky Leaves is said to be out soon, can be pre-ordered on bandcamp, and will be coming in a very strange format.  Very strange indeed.

Even More New Music From Sonny & The Sunsets

1838Sonny Smith is a busy man in the music game, and he seems to work just about as hard as anyone physically can.  It’s also worth saying that we seem to gobble up everything he does and tend to enjoy each new release as they rack up year after year.  As previously mentioned, Sonny and his band the Sunsets have a new album entitled Antenna to the Afterworld dropping on June 11th via Polyvinyl Records.  Prior to that release, we’ve got another new preview of the album in the form of new song “Green Blood”.  It sort of sounds like something straight of the 80s with a new wave sound clear throughout the song.  Alien love is sweet.

Ethereal Pop from Saskatchewan

saskatchewanIf you were following us during SXSW you’d know we tossed a tiny gathering with Father Daughter Records (among others), so we’re lucky to have a new tune from the label to share with you by Saskatchewan.  Earlier this month they released a more somber affair, which I’ve got down at the bottom for you to stream, but this new jam is much more light-hearted, sonically speaking.  It has many of the signature moves of the group, such as a stuttering guitar line, and percussion for accents; it all leaves you with the sense of floating, perfect for drifting off to sleep.  The label will release the band’s debut, Occasion, on April 30th.

More New Music from Gambles

653I know this song comes with an extremely sad story, but I think just the fact that it was written demonstrates that Matthew Siskin, aka Gambles, is more than just some sad troubadour writing great songs.  He’s got an emotional/political spirit, reminding me that there’s so much more that music seems to have moved away from.  I like the fact that it’s mostly Siskin’s voice, with a lightly strummed guitar and a few piano chords quieted in the background; that voice is so striking it will continue to haunt me for years.  You won’t see this on any release I’m sure, but you can check out the lyrics and a brief post from Matthew HERE.

New Music from The Gorgeous Hands

gorgeoushandsSeeing as we live in Austin, we’ve always got to represent the great Austin bands, like The Gorgeous Hands.  The band is finishing up touches on their latest album, Tender, which should see a May release.  This tune perfectly exemplifies the band’s sound, using a polished vocal that occasionally uses some accompaniment; it also has a straight-up-and-down rock structure, allowing the band to really get things going in the live setting, as we know they can do.  The band is currently running a kickstarter to finish off funding for the record; you can donate to the worthy cause HERE.
