New Jamz From Mazes

6092

Mazes is a band that we posted about a couple years ago and haven’t really heard much from since that point.  Today the band reached out to let us know they have a new album Ores & Minerals that just dropped last week on FatCat Records (available for purchase here).  To get you interested in that release, the band sent us over this new song “Skulking” which can be streamed and downloaded below.  The song is a great garage rock, lo-fi song that has one of the most badass, crazy amplified guitar solos around the 2:50 mark.  That alone makes the song a keeper for me.

Stream the Grape St. Record – A Date With You

grape_st._cover12inchHey-o folks.  Been hard at work here behind the scene to get this new record and all it’s info out to the masses. A Date with You is the second release from our up-start label here at the site, and we’re really stoked to be working with Grape St., which features members from Harlem, Hello Caller and Frank Smith.  Honestly, I don’t really care what anyone says about this record; it’s infectious, and there’s not a bad song on here.  I hope you dig it; I hope you jam out with your clam out.  If you’re interested in purchasing it, you can pre-order the album HERE.

New Rocker from Black Lizard

BLACKLIZARD_promopic1Late last year I brought you news of the great signing by Soliti Music, Black Lizard, offering us a dark bit of psychedelic folk.  This time, the group returns with a new single for their self-titled album…and it’s got a similar sound, though one that has a little bit more of a hazier coat of noise atop it.  Their album will be available from the label on April 5th, and it even has a little help from Anton Newcombe.  I have a feeling that once this is out, it’s really going to make its way overseas and create a huge stir in the States.  Good thing we were here first!

New Wave Pop From The Mary Onettes

maryonettes

After their announcement of a new album back in November with single “Evil Coast”, we haven’t heard much from Swedes The Mary Onettes about said new album.  Today the band surprised us with an email containing a link to their brand new single entitled “Hit the Waves”, and it’s sure to show a marked change in sound for fans of the band’s older material.  The band describe it best themselves when they told us “Previous influences like The Cure and Joy Division have now been replaced by Sade, Whitney Houston, Peter Gabriel and Vangelis”.  That just about sums it up doesn’t it?  Put this one in the queue for your next new wave dance party.

New album Hit the Waves will be out on March 12th via Labrador Records.

Synth Heavy Pop From Night Panther

nightpanther

It’s rare that a band gets as much coverage on this site as has our favorite Pennsylvania synth heavy groove pop band Night Panther.  A quick search on the site and you’re sure to pull up a slew of hits featuring the band’s noteworthy tunes.  Since we’ve said just about all we can at this point, I’ll let the music do the talking this time with this sweet groove “Lioness”.  The band still hasn’t given us an official release date for their upcoming debut LP, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Also, Night Panther will be joining the masses during SXSW so you should be sure to check them out if you’re in town.

New Bright Pop From Painted Palms

paintedpalmscover

Painted Palms are a band that have played the opening role to numerous touring acts coming through town like Of Montreal and Starfucker, to name a few.  To be honest, I’ve never paid much attention to the band until today when I found myself jamming along to this new song “Click”.  It’s a bright and sunny pop song that could easily be compared to the aforementioned bands that they’ve toured with in Austin.  However you want to describe or compare it, you can’t deny that you’re already bobbing your head with that catchy ass beat.

This tune is the B-side to the group’s new 7″ single Carousel which is available for shipping on March 22nd via Polyvinyl Records.  You can also hear the A-side streaming via the Painted Palms bandcamp page.

More New Jams From Criminal Hygiene

ch02

I’ve been really jamming out over the last few weeks to the new album CRMNL HYGNE by L.A. based group Criminal Hygiene.  The album has been in stores for about a month now, but I wanted to share with you a new song called “Alan, I’m in Love” that the band just made available as a free download.  Hopefully it will drum up some excitement for those of you who have yet to get your head on straight and pick up this album.  You cheap skates can even get a digital copy of the massive 17 song album for only $5 over on bandcamp.

Manchester Monday with Sorry, No

521422_449526295119320_1229524907_nSeeing as it’s been a good year for my favorite soccer team, allowing me to wake most Mondays with a win, I wanted to share a new tune from the city that’s recently been put out by Art is Hard Records.   Sorry, No is primarily the work of Luke Bather, with a little help from his friend; I like the stripped down quality of the track, which creates an intimate listening experience.  Word on the street is that a recording is in the process for an upcoming EP, which features the following track.  Sure, it’s not Madchester, but it’s still pretty damn good. Ra Ra Cantona.

Looking In on Shelflife Records

LIFE097_Cover480Been following Shelflife Records for a bit now, and I had almost forgotten to check back with them on plans for 2013.  Good thing I took a look-see, as they’ve got two great new acts I want to share with you.  First, you’ve got Spain’s When Nalda Became Punk.  It’s refreshing to hear spirited jangle-pop coming with just a hint of a Spanish accent. They’re debut for the label, A Farewell to Youth, is out now.  Also, the label has just put out the Goodly Thousands 7″, with the Irish group kicking out really rad indie pop, like a less-angular version of The Lodger.  Music like this really makes it easy for me to come back to work on a Monday.

Even More New Music From Sweet Serenades

artworks-000040997051-0a513i-t500x500

I’ve been following Swedish based pop band Sweet Serenades for a few years now and I’ve always enjoyed their fresh style of pop music with a certain Scandinavian raw twist.  Saving you from another biography of the band, I just wanted to share this new track they recently sent my way called “Run (Run Run)”.  It’s just been pointed out to me that the song is sort of reminiscent of a certain Austin band Built by Snow and I think I’m cool with that comparison.  This song appears on the band’s new album Help Me! which is out now and available for purchase via Leon Records.
