New Music from Being There

This is perhaps my favorite discovery of the weekend, so I hope it makes your Monday an extra special one.  Being There are an up-and-coming London act, making waves by pretty much killing an old school alternative sound.  Their album, Breaking Away, comes out early next year on January 29th, and I promise you that it’ll warm your heart.  The pacing of the tracks, like the one below, is steady, with hints of distortion on the guitars; the vocals are soft, almost whispered, creating an incredible effect.  I’m really hoping huge things happen for this band; this record deserves all the love it can get.

New Jam from Maus Haus

If things go as planned, then this should be a good year for Maus Haus.  The group just released their well-balanced Light Noise EP, and it’s a listen that makes its way into your playing rotation pretty quickly.  There’s a play between light and dark throughout the entire listen, operating within a spectrum of psychedelia and more creative pop influences.  This sprawling track displays the group walking that fine line, even tossing in a bit of their Kraut-rock influences to boot.  If you spend some time with this EP, you’re going to find yourself a new favorite band. That I can guarantee.

New Jangle Pop from Gloss

It’s Friday, so I’m looking for upbeat tunes to whisk you away into the sunset, and I think this new tune from Gloss that I heard via IPSML is going to just the trick.  It’s just a one track single at this point, but it combines elements of our favorite jangling guitars with warm fuzz you’ll find from the likes of most gaze bands. The track is playful, yet there’s a lush quality that allows for the perfect amount of escapism.  Such are the tracks we all adore on a Friday, heading into relaxation mode for the weekend.

New Aussie Pop from Dick Diver

Well well well, it’s more great news from the great folks over at Chapter Music.  They’ve just announced they’ll be releasing the next great Dick Diver record sometime next year, with a teaser EP coming out next week featuring this track below.  I can’t say enough about Dick Diver; their songs always sneak their way into my head at the best times, creating a stupid grin that can’t be wiped off my face.  If you’re new to the band, which is okay, please check out their release, New Start Again, just as a sample of the great things about to come your way.

Heavy New Jam from Dog Bite

When I first pressed play on this new jam from Phil Jones project, Dog Bite, the heavy guitar definitely caught my ear.  It gave a darker quality to the song from the get-go, which I definitely appreciated.  Then the vocals washed in a bit of haunting echo pushed me over the edge.  And while there’s a lurking solemnity, it’s not a song free of hooks.  His album, Velvet Changes will be out on February 5th of next year via Carpark Records, and it’s shaping up to be one of those underdog releases I’m really rooting for.  Have at it guys.

New Single from Jonti (sort of)

Early on Jonti released Sine + Moon on Stones Throw Records featuring the track “Saturday Night Songs,” but he wasn’t quite satisfied with it I suppose.  He went back into the studio with his friend Peanut Butter Wolf and re-recorded it, fleshing out the track with a few more arrangements.  He then retitled the tracks, “Saturday Night.”  I love the way the strumming sounds on this recording, and the backing vocal echoing in the far off distance.; it’s the intimate sort of track that really sinks into your soul, especially when you hear the crackle of the tape.  He’s also done a video for it, which you can find HERE.

Introducing: Shark Week

It’s time to get that new band smell going around these parts kids.  This new artist that I’m promoting today comes at you straight out of the D.C. area and goes by the incredible band name Shark Week.  Now when one hears such a band name, you will immediately assume that they have some sort of badass tendencies behind their music.  You would be safe in assuming such things about Shark Week and can confirm with a quick listen to the rocking track “If You Want Me to Stay (For a While)”.  It’s sort of a surf rock sounding tune with tons of energy and plenty of grit to boot.  If you’re into it, check out Shark Week’s latest EP over on bandcamp which can be downloaded at a name your own price policy.

Slacker Pop from Bitch Prefect

Our friend Toby over at Finest Kiss just ran a great re-cap on an article that ran over in Australia highlighting all the excellent bands working in Melbourne area.  There’s tons of great artists on the list, but one that I’ve taken a liking to is Bitch Prefect.  My ears can see The Clean reference from the write-up, but I also think it speaks to the approach many of the acts overseas have taken, seeming to maintain a certain nonchalance about their writing and recording.  That’s probably not the case, as the songs on the group’s Big Time LP from Bedroom Suck Records are too good to be taken lightly.
