Who Is In The Mood For Some Terry Malts?

Me. Pretty much always.

We love this band. They are nice. Nathan emailed me a link to a page of solid jams and this one happened to be on it so, yeah, stream some Terry Malts, people.

“Living With The Human Race” starts with big slow fuzz that yields to pummeled drums and more fuzz.

New Single from Tender Trap

No! This is not a post about TEMPER TRAP, this is about the great pop band, Tender Trap.  The group’s fronted by one of rock’s icons Amelia Fletcher of Talulah Gosh, and they’ll have a new album titled Ten Songs About Girls coming to you soon via Fortuna Pop in September.  But, for now they’ve contracted this brilliant new single that’s definitely going to hit you right in the pop heartstrings.  I love the muted guitar sound accompanied by the call-and-response vocal display before the group bursts off into blissful melody during the chorus.  If you don’t like this, it’s cool, but I’ll probably hate on you behind your back.

Brand New Single from Sea Pinks!

We’ve always enjoyed the work of Sea Pinks ever since the project started, and I’m so excited they’ve got a brand new LP in the works.  In fact, it’s already done and titled Freak Waves; the record will be released by CF Records, who’ve recently put out a collection of B-Sides from the group.  As soon as the jangling guitar line bursts in from the opening, I was hooked.  But, I really like the way the vocal is delivered with the words “a pattern recognition” in the chorus; it’s the hook that made me gravitate towards this song.  Love this band so hard.

New Jam from New Faultlines

I’ve heard a few rumors about this band, and since they’re from San Francisco, I figured I could trust the sources.  While it’s not entirely like the usual fare coming from the city, I’m really digging what I’m hearing from New Faultlines.  You’ll hear a nice little jangling guitar being strummed throughout, which goes along with the feel of the vocals; yes, I know they sound a bit unhinged.  It gives me that fuzzy feeling the first time I heard Twerps, so hopefully that’s gotta be worth something in your book.  As of now, that’s all the info I can find on the band, but I’ll keep you posted when I hear more.

Introducing Our Guys

I just a heads up about this new project going down in Brooklyn called Our Guys.  The music is really new and is reminiscent of the fine tunes created by Grizzly Bear with their mellow beats and soothing vocal harmonies.  Word from the band is that they are currently recording their debut full length in Brooklyn that does not yet have a release date.  Until we get word on that, enjoy the tune “Famous Last Words” we have for you below and also check out a 3 song EP currently streaming over on the group’s bandcamp site.  I think you’ll rather enjoy it.

More New Tunes from Alpaca Sports

Sweden’s Alpaca Sports has been on my radar for quite some time, and they just continue their excellent musical year as they prepare to release yet another single, “I Was Running” on August 30th.  Andreas’ songwriting continues to improve, and I think the band has gotten to the top of the pops with this tune.  I definitely don’t mind the inclusion of a few steady handclaps as they break into the song near the end. If you’re a lover of all things indie pop, then by all means, free yourself up and spend some time with this new track from Alpaca Sports.

New Rockin’ Tune From Blonde Summer

Well summer is finally over, but that doesn’t mean I can’t sneak in one or two songs to help brighten the sadness that has overcome those of us in education.  This shiny little number from Los Angeles based group Blonde Summer called “Robots On Command” is perfect for pulling us out of our end of vacation doldrums.  It’s got a great opening riff, continues to rock throughout, and has that nice bit of sunshine that those Californians all seem to take for granted.  The song appears on the band’s recently released EP Slow Daze which is available to purchase on iTunes.

New Chilled Song from Gangi

It’s always amazing to me what modern recordings processes can do for a duo; you know, things that couldn’t be done as easily in the 60s.  My newest discovery is LA duo Gangi, who’ve got a little bit of a psych bent on their tunes.  They’ll soon be releasing their second LP, Gesture Is, on October 2nd via Office of Analogue and Digital.  Not only am I stoked upon the groove coming here, but I’m really digging the way the group is looping the vocals–which is what I was referencing earlier.  If you listen carefully you can hear the faint squawk of a horn near the end of the song…another special moment. Enjoy this one.

Yet Another New jam from Ty Segall

The hardest working man in indie rock is back at it again with yet another new single, this one preparing us for his upcoming record, Twins.  Personally, this is one of my favorite new Ty songs of the last year; I like the way it opens up with chilled female vocals before Ty bursts in with his usual squall of guitar noise.  And, while it would be easy for the female voice to disappear, Ty keeps it in there to counterbalance his own whaling.  This is probably the best he’s written in all year.  You can pick up Twins from Drag City on October 9th, or pick up the 7″ with this featured tune on September 4th.

More New Music From The Helio Sequence

Last month we heard a new single from The Helio Sequence called “October” and I know the entire ATH crew was pumped to hear the band was back into action.  Today the band is offering another new song called “Hall of Mirrors” up for free download and it’s getting us even more amped up for the upcoming album.  As previously mentioned, Helio Sequence have a new album coming out entitled Negotiations which is available on September 11th via Sub Pop.
