Smoking Popes & Koufax @ Mohawk 8/12

If you are looking for a night of classic indie pop from some well-established bands then you should head out to The Mohawk tomorrow night! Smoking Popes are headlining, along with Koufax, who used to be heralded as one of indie-pop’s greats. Not to mention, you will get to see the local Austin band, Masonic. It’s sure to be a good night of classic pop tunes in the vein of the indie realm. Koufax should be debuting some new material, which has the possibility of being surprisingly good. See for yourself.

Doors to the show open at 8 PM, and you can purchase $10 tickets to the show.

New Music From The Bellfuries

Austin’s own The Bellfuries recently put out an album earlier this summer entitled Palmyra. We didn’t know much about this band at the time but have started to put the new album on heavy rotation in the ATH offices.  Below is a track off that album called “Give It, Get It” that’s one of our favorites of the year.  You can hear some other songs off Palmyra over on the band’s myspace page.

Trail Of Dead

Everyone’s favorite Austin band …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead have been fairly quiet since the release of their 2006 album So Divided which wasn’t exactly loved by critics, or fans for that matter. The band has resurfaced recently with an in depth interview over on the Drowned in Sound website. The interview sees the band discussing a new album set to be released in early 2009 on their own label Richter Scale. The band also recently provided a live set for the Daytrotter website with 4 songs that you can download or stream. (Check out “Will You Smile Again for Me?”) Finally, if you’re not familiar with the band, below is a song called “Another Morning Stoner” off the band’s 2002 album (and best release to date) Source Tags & Codes.
