New Track from Stephen Malkmus

Okay, this song is all over the internet, with focus on that fact that the “senator wants a blowjob,” but what’s wrong with everyone giving a little press to our hero Stephen Malkmus?  His newest record, Mirror Traffic, will be coming out via Matador on August 23rd, and it’s clear that the Beck produced record is going to have a bit of spit and polish to it.  This track below has those Malkmus cascading guitar cuts going through it, but you can definitely feel a bit of the gritty edge removed, or at least pushed down in the overall mix.  At some point, people have to make changes, and I expect this to be a great one for Stephen and his Jicks.

New Song from Milagres

The hit making city has struck again! Brooklyn churns out more than its share of music, and Milagres is one of those bands that has slowly been on the rise; they’re ready to go beyond the city though.  They’ve just signed on with Kill Rock Stars who will be releasing their record, Glowing Mouth, at some point in September.  The first single, the album’s title track, has this electronic vibe to it, but what really grabs me, and hopefully you as well, is the way the vocals come across; they seem to be manipulated so carefully, showing perfect control in both pitch and tone.  I’ve just been replaying this all afternoon, so I figured you folks out there would enjoy it as well.

New Music From BOBBY

Recently put together band BOBBY have this quirky new tune “Ginger (Water Birth)” that I’ve been jamming this morning.  The song is set to appear on a new self-titled album from the group due out June 21st on Partisan Records.  If you dig this tune, the band has graciously decided to stream their new album prior to its release date over on NPR’s First Listen.  Give it a spin.

Free Sampler From Manateam Group

Recent Austin startup Manateam Group has begun to build a name in the music industry specializing in promotion, booking, publishing, and anything else a local band may need.  Over the last couple months of existence, the Austin collective has built a nice roster of local artists with familiar faces like Zlam Dunk mixed in with newer acts like Equals.  To showcase their talent, a free sampler was deemed to be in order and is now available on the Manateam Group bandcamp page.  You’ll get 13 tracks of some of the best Austin has to offer, including this tasty new number from Basketball Cards “Waiting for Me”.  Well done kids.

New Tune from Cut Off Your Hands

For some reason I passed on this song when MOKB ran it, but I guess that was just a bit of laziness on my part, as I love Cut Off Your Hands.  Official news came today that the band will be releasing their newest record, Hollow, on August 16th via Frenchkiss Records, the label that put out their previous effort.  The press release talks of Nick Johnston sort of hitting a wall, and going back to those records of simple joy, which helped him find his way back to solid footing with his own songwriting. The track below definitely has an Oceania vibe to it, reminiscent of my all time favorite, The Go-Betweens.  It does sound a lot less angular and British, which, in my opinion, is going to make this record incredible.

New Music From Reptar

The best way to start your week off right is to get some dance music going in the office on an otherwise slow ass Monday morning.  This new pop dance jam “Houseboat Babies” comes from Athens based hit makers Reptar.  With musical sounds similar to LCD Soundsystem and vocals reminiscent of Yeasayer leading man Chris Keating, you really can’t find a better indie dance hall jam.  You can pick up this song and one other on a new 7″ from the band due out later this month on Make Records Not Bombs.

New Tunes from Beirut

We’ve all heard for quite some time about new work from Zach and Beirut, especially considering the young man is out and about across the country this summer. Well, his first single will hit stores this Tuesday, and this track is the perfect culmination of both Condon’s past and, well, present it would seem. There’s definitely less of a nomadic troubadour trying to find his place in the global musical world, instead replacing it with touches of his previous works, while continuing to focus on his remarkable vocals. One listen to the below track will surely have anyone interested in all the future works that are sure to come our way this year.

Free EP From Her Space Holiday

Austin resident Marc Bianchi, or Her Space Holiday to most of you, is planning to hang up the HSH moniker after the release of his self-titled LP due out in August.  Prior to that date, Marc has put together a 4 song EP with some new material, a remix, and a cover song all available for download via MOKB.  The EP features this new anthemic pop song “Black Cat Balloons” which is available for download below.  Here’s to one more great album from Her Space Holiday and hopes that Marc keeps on making music elsewhere.
