Reggae Time with the Meditations

I love my friends Corey and Levi, for many reasons, but one being their interest in music outside of my spectrum. This year they finally converted me, via The Big Takeover’s Top 50 Reggae Albums, to the ways of true reggae. I opted to share with you one of my recent discoveries, The Meditations, on this fine Thursday. This ain’t your mother’s reggae tunes!

Chairlift On Daytrotter

Dance/pop outfit Chairlift recently recorded a 4 song Daytrotter session that you can download or stream online.  The 4 song set features 3 old tunes and one previously unreleased track.  Here’s “Bruises” (that song from the ipod commercial) performed live in the Daytrotter studio.

New Music From The Von Bondies

We’re probably a little late on getting this one out, but we can’t resist new tunes.  Today’s new music comes from Detroit outfit, The Von Bondies.  You more than likely remember the band from their 2004 hit “C’mon C’mon” or singer Jason Stollsteimer’s 2003 altercation with Jack White.  Regardless, the band has a new album out on February 3rd entitled Love, Hate and Then There’s You.  We’ve got first single from the album “Pale Bride” below.

New Music From Beirut

We here at ATH have always loved the musical stylings of Zach Condon and his band Beirut, so when they drop new music, we give it to you.  Today we offer up new single “La Llorana” which is set to appear on new EP March of the Zapotec due out February 17th via Ba Da Bing Records.  The EP is said to contain music from Mr. Condon’s recent trip to Oaxaca, Mexico and features backing music from 19 piece Mexican outfit The Jimenez Band.  What’s your take on the new material?

New Music From M. Ward

Last week we told you about NPR streaming the new M. Ward album Hold Time, but that doesn’t do much for your ipod lovers.  Today we’re offering up an MP3 of a song from the new album called “Never Had Nobody Like You” which features backing vocals from the other half of She & Him, Zooey Deschanel.  I wonder why the first single would be one of the few tracks featuring the future Mrs. Gibbard?  We’ll let you decide that one.

New Telekinesis

One of our favorite labels, Merge Records,  just signed Michael Benjamin Lerner, and his project Telekinesis, to their label.  The first single that’s been floating around is catchy as all get out, and we’re really looking forward to the release of his first album, set to hit stores on April 7th.

New Television Personalities

There is something about British jangle-pop that really hits home with me.  Perhaps it’s the lo-fi quality or the romanticism, but at the forefront of it all has always been Television Personalities. They just recently released a new 7 ” titled The Good Anarchist on Elefant Records, which means we should hopefully have a new full length album coming our way sometime in March.  Check out the title track of said 7″!

Brothers And Sisters @ Mohawk (1/17)

Choices for weekend shows are looking pretty slim, but one bright spot on the map is a Brothers & Sisters show at Mohawk on Saturday.  The local Austin band has been getting a lot of well deserved praise this year with the release of their solid debut LP Fortunately.  Having seen these guys a few times now, we can tell you that this will be a show you don’t want to miss out on.  Show starts at 9 with tickets being sold only at the door.
