Johnathon Ford will be bringing his instrumental outfit Unwed Sailor to Emo’s Austin on Wednesday evening. Doors for the show are at 8 with music beginning around 10. Local Austin act, The Calm Blue Sea, will also be playing in support of the Oklahoma based act. Preview the show with recent single from Unwed Sailor “Copper Islands”.

One of my favorite discoveries of the year, Horse Feathers, just recorded a Woxy Lounge session and the nice folks at The Futurist have all the live songs available for download. The band plays 3 songs from their stellar 2008 album House With no Home and one from their 2006 release Words Are Dead. Here’s the live track from the 2006 album called “Mother’s Sick”. Beautiful.

Comet Gain has been one of my favorite bands for several years now, yet they never really seem to pop into the consciousness for most people. This new track comes off a 7” that also features the song “Love Without Lies.” Each song will appear on the band’s newest album Broken Record Players, set to hit our shores this coming Tuesday, November 18th.

Another album of the year contender, Dutchess & The Duke, were recently featured on the Daytrotter website. The Portland duo play two songs from their 2008 debut LP and two other previously unreleased songs. Download/listen to the songs and find out why we love these two so much. Anti Records is doing there part to remind you about some of their better releases of the year by giving away a free end of the year sampler. Of Montreal will be bringing their ridiculous live show through Austin this Thursday evening and we’re here to bring you the details. The band will be playing at the rarely utilized Fiesta Gardens on the east side with doors opening at 6pm. Tickets can be bought now from the Transmission Entertainment website. If you’re curious about the venue choice, my guess is that they need somewhere to park the horse trailer. To make the show even more enticing, Icy Demons out of Chicago will be opening for Of Montreal. Here’s a track from Icy Demons called “Miami Ice”.
