New Music From Cold War Kids

up-cold_war_kidsDuring our lapse in time during the holidays, news hit the web of a new EP from Cold War Kids.  The new Extended Player, Behave Yourself, is available now on itunes and in stores Jan 19th via Down Town Music.  Below you can find a sample of that new EP with track “Audience of One”.  Not really sure how I feel about the tune yet as it sort of sounds like piano pop music similar to your 20 year old girlfriends favorite singer.

the-album-leaf-siffWhaaaa?  The Album Leaf are actually still around?  Apparently so and we couldn’t be more excited!  After a long hiatus from releasing new material (2006), the Jimmy Lavalle lead band are returning in 2010 with a new album.  The new LP goes by the name A Chorus of Storytellers and sees the light of day on Feb. 2nd via Sub Pop.  Until then, check out first single “Falling from the Sun” and get yourself jacked up for the new release.

New Music From Broken Bells

broken-bellsA new song called “High Road” from the new Danger Mouse & James Mercer (Shins) project has been spreading over the internet today.  The duo recently announced that they were teaming up as Broken Bells and plan to release their debut self-titled LP on March 9th via Columbia Records.  Pre-order options are available on the new Broken Bells website.  This new jam sounds a lot like…. well a lot like what you would expect to hear if Danger Mouse#mce_temp_url# produced a Shins album.  Duh.

New Music From Woodpigeon

woodpigeonCandian indie rockers Woodpigeon are returning in 2010 with much anticipated release Die Stadt Muzikantan (“that musical city”? My German is not good).  To preview this upcoming album, the band has released this much easier to pronounce single “Empty-Hall Sing-Along”.  I dare you to get that melody/chorus out of your head after you’ve given this one a few spins.  Woodpigeon’s new album will be out January 12th on Boompa Records.

The Rentals Wrap Songs About Time Project

06_the-rentalsOver the summer we mentioned Matt Sharp’s year long project with The Rentals Songs About Time and now the endeavor is about to come to a close.  As previously stated, the ambitious undertaking will include 3 EPs, 365 photos for each day of the year, and 52 black & white short films for each week of the year.  Right after the new year, the band also plans to release all of this material in the form of limited and deluxe edition sets with a coffee table book of photos, vinyl versions of the EPs, DVDs for short films, and tons of other goodies all included.  Those limited release editions can be pre-ordered now, but do not yet have a set release date.  If money is an issue, you can stream all the new EPs and check out a sampling of the photos/films in The Rental’s online store.  Below you’ll also find an MP3 of new song “” found on the second EP released this year.  It’s a softer tune that encompasses the theme of love had and lost that seems to ooze from every corner of this huge project.  I suggest you take some time to browse through Mr. Sharp’s very eventful and productive 2009.
