subpopSub Pop is at it again with another free sampler featuring some of their best tunes from last year along with a few previews of upcoming material.  You’ll see staples like Beach House, Grand Archives, The Ruby Suns, and tons more.  You’ve probably seen a lot of these songs here on our site, but isn’t it easier to get them all in one big zip file?  Si!  Oh and your favorite 1990s internet graphics are back and ready for some fun!

New Tunes from Twin Shadow

twin-shadowThe story goes that George Lewis Jr. had been struggling with writer’s block until he began to wonder the streets of Berlin.  It seems at this point he came to the decision to record some sublime electro-pop tunes that will soon be released by Grizzly Bear‘s Chris Taylor’s Terrible Records.  He’s got some 7 inches coming your way in the Spring, and based on this track, you’re going to love Twin Shadow.  It recalls a touch of TV on the Radio for me, but hey, that’s just me.

The super duo of Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard and Son Volt leading man Jay Farrar are stopping into town at Antone’s on Wednesday.  The recently formed group are touring in support of their Big Sur inspired colaborative project.  One of our favorite songwriters Will Johnson will also be on hand to open things up.

New Music From Radar Brothers

radarbros_andrew_youssef_loAfter taking a short hiatus and re-working their lineup, Radar Brothers are returning in 2010 with a new album.  The joint is to be called The Illustrated Garden and hits stores March 23rd on Merge.  First single from the upcoming LP is featured below.  It’s a sweet lil’ pop jam that should brighten your day.

New Tunes from The Mynabirds

lbIt’s been awhile since we heard anything from the other half of our favorites Georgie James, but finally, Laura Burhenn is back.  She’s got a new group called The Mynabirds who will be releasing their debut album, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, on April 27th on Saddle Creek Records.  We’ve got a sample track for you to get to know the band.  If you ask me, it sort of sounds like Rilo Kiley if they were out to have a ball.

New Tunes from Parenthetical Girls

girlsNews began to circulate Friday that Parenthetical Girls will be releasing a five part series of 12″ starting on February 23rd.  Seems like a fairly large undertaking, which will eventually all fit together like a proper album, but regardless, the first song off the series is ridiculously good.  I had it on repeat for a better part of this weekend, so we wanted to bring it your way.  If you like it, it comes on the first installment of the series, On Death & Endearment.  Buen provecho.

New Music From She & Him

she-and-himFinally!  What a nice surprise to get up this morning and find a much anticipated new track from super duo She & Him.  This new track “In the Sun” will appear on the sophomore LP Volume Two which is due out March 23rd on Merge.  The new track also features some guest vocals from Tilly & The Wall.  Nice.

New Tunes from Turin Brakes

turinAs the year goes on and on, it seems like everybody is getting in on the releasing of albums.  Turin Brakes is the next group we’re excited about hearing from, especially because of this new acoustic pop number “Apocolips.”  It’s more tried and tested tunes performed and written by the duo.  You can find this album on their new album Outbursts, which comes out March 30th via Cooking Vinyl.

The Cribs @ The Parish (1/23)

English veteran rockers The Cribs are stopping into town at The Parish on Saturday night.  Locals are solid as well with Adam Green and The Dead Trees getting in on the fun.  This is hands down your best option for music on Saturday.
