New Music From Zero 7

872889249_lNot much attention has been given to London band Zero 7 since they received all kinds of new fans after their song “In the Waiting Line” appeared on the Garden State soundtrack. Many years after that success, the band is still going strong and would probably rather forget about the band wagon fans they made back then. Regardless, Zero 7 are prepping a new LP entitled Yeah Ghost set to be released September 8th. First taste of the new album “Everything Up (Zizou)” is available below and features the vocals of Eska Mtungwaz.

Camera Obscura In Austin (6/15)

camera-obscuraWe’ve had our calendars marked for Camera Obscura coming to town ever since we fell in love with their new release My Maudlin Career.  So now the time is here and lucky for all us fans, the Glasgow band is playing two shows on Monday!  First up is an intimate stripped down Camera set at Waterloo Records around 1pm.  Second is a full on proper set around 9pm at Antone’s downtown.  Hellz yeah!  The late night show features opening support from Anni Rossi and an entrance fee of $20.  Check out one our favorite jams from the last year below and tell me you aren’t pumped up for this one!

LA Snack @ Club de Ville (6/13)

lakicksOur friends over at Party Ends have a sweet show planned for Saturday night at Club de Ville here in Austin.  The all local lineup includes up and comers LA Snacks, Deleted Scenes, Loxsly and a DJ set by John Gross.  Show starts at 9pm.  This should be a cheap way to get your live music fix on an otherwise boring Saturday night.

White Rabbits On Woxy/In Austin

rabbits1 White Rabbits, creators of one of our favorite songs of the year, just recorded a Woxy lounge session which is now posted over on the Futurist.  The in-studio performance features 4 songs including a rousing rendition of that sweet jam “Percussion Gun”.  Now is also a good time to mention that the band will be making a stop at Emo’s in Austin this Sunday night.  Tickets for that show are on sale now for only $10.

From the Closet – The Exploding Hearts

explodinghearts1Seeing as it’s summertime around these parts, I’ve been creating lots of mixtapes in my head for various trips across the country.  One band that always makes the cut is The Exploding Hearts. Their brilliant punk meets power-pop career was cut short by a tragic accident that took three of the four founding members.  No amount of press would bring the greatness of this band back to us, but we will always have their delightful tunes to put on our mixtapes.

Lions @ Emo’s (6/12)

lionsEmo’s has a solid lineup of local acts ready and rarin’ to go for a night of rock on Friday.  Acts include heavy rockers Lions, Ume and The Record Hop.  No tickets will be sold online so bring $7 if you’re of age and $10 if you’re under.  Here’s that Ume song everyone is talking about around town called “The Conductor”.

New Tunes from Helvetia

helvetiaSwiss transplant Jason Albertini is now living in the Northwest, and his music with Helvetia is easily influenced by the sounds of the area, not to mention his recordings, since he’s been joined by Scott Plouf of Built to Spill.  His new album, Helvetia’s Junk Shop, will be released this September on Static Cult. This recording sounds a bit muddy, but it the vocals definitely meander through the song as you would expect from a band in this region. Here’s “Leading Towards an End.”

Peaches @ Emos (6/11)

peaches300Sex crazed pop musician Peaches is making a stop at Emo’s in Austin on Thursday night.  Tour support Drums of Death should combine nicely with the headliners to make this a night of crazy drunken dancing and singing.  Tickets are still available to purchase, but I wouldn’t plan on buying one at the door.  Music starts at 10pm.  Don’t miss this one!
