Black Moth Super Rainbow @ Mohawk – 6/2

It’s the beginning of a killer week of live music here in Austin, and the town is going to start it off with a great set from various noise-makers. Black Moth Super Rainbow headline this show at Mohawk, closing with their electronic noise fusion. Local greats Balmorhea open this show, and they’re sure to be the quieter set of the evening. Don’t forget the middle band, School of Seven Bells, will bring their precious space-pop amidst the two acts, rounding out an evening of solid tunes.

New Tunes from Nightmare of You

A few years back Nightmare of You seemed just like another one of the bands emulating The Killers. But, in the years since, they’ve fleshed out their sound quite a bit, evolving beyond the basics and into a group all their own. “I Think I’m Getting Older” from the band’s forthcoming album, which hits the streets on July 28th, has a hint of Koufax, especially in the delivery of the lyrics, but as previously mentioned, the band are going further then they have before; this is all to their benefit.

New Tunes from The Lovely Feathers

A few years ago, The Lovely Feathers had it all. Their high energy Canadian post-pop had them labeled as the next big thing all over the world, but then they hit some struggles, and seemed to get lost for the time being. And now they’re back for the attack, offering up new tunes, and a new album titled Fantasy of the Lot, which will hit the shores of Canada this week; it doesn’t make its way to the rest of us until August. Still, we’ve got the album’s opener to get you reacquainted with the band.

King’s X @ Red Eyed Fly (6/1)

Yes you read that right. Kings mutha truckin X is playing at Red Eyed Fly on Monday. Monday! I can’t believe I am actually typing these words. How can such a band be playing at such a small venue!?! Okay maybe you aren’t as excited as me, but you damn well should be. I can’t find anything about a price or when it starts, but I bet it’s cheap and pretty late. Rock on!

Your Twenties is a London based group who we probably won’t get to see on our shores for quite some time, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy one of their most recent singles from afar? This song “Caught Wheel” sounds a little bit like some of the recent French pop stylings from bands like Phoneix, but it also has a California sunny twist. Regardless, it’s definitely enjoyable.

More from The Twilight Sad

Needless to say, the more that flows through the usual news channels concerning The Twilight Sad, the more excited I get about the release of their new album, which is slated for this fall. Now, I’ve only got a link to this, so you’ll have to travel via the Internet, but once you see this video featuring another new track, “Made to Disappear,” hopefully you’ll start salivating just as I am. The only thing that needs to be added is the usual walls of sound that the group is known for with their albums. Check out the video at FlyTV.

The Virgins @ Emo’s (5/27)

The Virgins are a band receiving some positive press recently as the music world becomes more and more fascinated with dance/pop/garage bands. Not too sure about what the band brings to the table as far as live sets go, but I do know that their single is catchy as hell. Touring support for this Emo’s show is pretty solid with Lissy Trullie and Anya Marina both on the bill. Tickets are on sale now for $12 and show starts at 9.
