Short But Sweet Video From Amy O

Amy O has released a new video for her track, “Lavender Night,” which is just the right level of high energy to push you through your Thursday. The song is a brief burst of twee vibes with an undercurrent of grittier lo-fi that pushes through in the electric guitar. The vocals are super sweet and honeyed, riding high in the mix, but the rest of the two minute track is rock and roll. Check out the dancing in the woods/party time video below.

New Tam Vantage Music

I adored Pop Singles (if you haven’t listened to All Gone I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life), the band Tam Vantage worked in long ago. Since then, he’s released one solo outing, and now he’s onto his next. This recent single seems really casual, allowing Tam to control the track through his vocal delivery; I love how he holds these calmed harmonies. The way the guitars seem to ring, announcing the chords with emphasis, definitely draws from the Oceanic sound. You’ll find the latest track fitting in with the current Aussie vibe, but maybe I hear a bit of McLennan/Forster lurking beneath too. Whatever the case, Show Me to the Sun will be high on my list of albums to wrap up my year; it hits on September 8th.

Another New Alex Cameron Video

Alex Cameron, the man, the legend, is on his way to his sophomore album release. After his killer duet and neat video for “Stranger’s Kiss” featuring Angel Olsen, he’s trying to keep the momentum going for that upcoming record. “Runnin’ Outta Luck” shows the artist dancing about in several different locations along a coast with his signature silly dance moves, high waist jeans, and slicked back cool-boy hair. The track is a bouncy pop tune, with 80s synth influence and the help of Brandon Flowers on backing vocals/guitars/keys. You can definitely hear Flowers’ presence through the whole song, and the chorus is pretty damn catchy, leaning hard into the bad-boy persona that Cameron has fashioned. Take a peek below and get ready for the release of Forced Witness, which will be out next week on September 8 via Secretly Canadian.

 

Check This New Shrug Life Tune

Irish act Shrug Life have been at it for some time, though they’re just now getting around to dropping their debut full-length. Today they drop their jagged pop number “First World Problems,” a playful discussion on the trappings of modern day living. Energetic and catchy at once, it’s hard to see anyone not enjoying themselves while blasting this through their speakers. You’ll hear remnants of Weezer with a sharper edge, and whole lot of nerdiness. Turn up and tune in; they’ll release their debut on September 29th via Jigsaw Records and Little L.

New Electronic Doom from Odonis Odonis

Sometimes when you strip down to the most minimal bits of your work, you come out with the best product. This might just be the case for Odonis Odonis, who are reported to have stripped down the instrumentation on their latest effort to synthesizers and electronic drums. I love how these guys make music that sounds like impending doom, but almost makes you beg for it; it sounds beautiful. There’s a moment on the latter half of the tune where they build the tension with tons of negative space, only to drop the vocals and beat back in one more time. Felte will be releasing the No Pop on October 20th.

Video Premiere for Orlando furious

There are some artists who march to their own drum, and Orlando furious is one such act. Typically they work with samples and iPad apps to craft beat driven vibes, though this new tune is built around the backbone of an acoustic guitar sample, looped in with a warbling affect that may be disoriented. It’s a warped trip through the wonderful world of outsider pop, and the accompanying video only guarantees that status for OF, willing to craft music on terms they define. Tenth Court will be releasing Named Feelings, the new LP featuring “Rage” in early 2018, so stay tuned for more. Buy/stream the tune HERE.

Stream the Long Lost Mick Trouble EP

I’ve been on a huge TVP kick, thanks to the Beautiful Music dropping their latest collection of TVP tribute albums. So, with that, it would make sense that I’m salivating whilst listening to the long lostMick Trouble 7″ EP. Those bouncing bass lines, steady drum work and that British vocal delivery simply charms. It amazes me how something recorded in 1980 can still sound so incredibly relevant…and so bad ass. And I’ll probably kick myself for this, but it’s coming out in very limited quantities; Rough Trade will have 100 copies in the UK, while Emotional Response will do a limited run of 50. Regardless of whether you get your hands on this or not, these songs are nothing but jams.

Brooding Track From A. Savage

A. Savage, of Parquet Courts, will be releasing his new album,Thawing Dawn, in a little over a month on October 13. He’s shared another single from that release called “Wild, Wild, Wild Horses” and it’s an interesting take on indie rock. It’s got a cinematic feel to it– minimalist in instrumentation, the song sounds like it’s going to launch into full sound at any moment, but it sort of lingers off stage for the most part. The vocals are in the spotlight, and with in-depth lyrics like A. Savage has spun, you’re pretty glad you can make out every word. Take a listen below and then go pre-order the new record here.

Another Tune from The Luxembourg Signal

Having already released one of the best songs of the year in “Laura Palmer,” The Luxembourg Signal are back with the announcement of Blue Field, their brand new LP. I love the sounds of the guitars working against one another; one sounds like an acoustic strum while the other cuts through with discordant rings. You take those two bits fighting joyously, then top it off with incredible vocals that seem to hang in there, even after the syllables have been released. This is some of the best indiepopmusic being written, period. I couldn’t be more excited to get my hands on what’s sure to be gem of an LP, when Shelflife drop it on October 13th (KUS will handle Europe).

Fuzzy New Jetstream Pony Tune

This brand new Jetstream Pony is the best way to break your midweek doldrums. The band is made up of members of Trembling Blue Stars (Beth Arzy), The Wedding Present (Shaun Charman) and more; that right there is a pedigree for a certifiable hit. And, with this new gem, I’m on board; the guitars have a jagged fuzzy quality, and the vocals take on a beautiful dream-state that effortlessly floats atop the solid drumwork. The group are set to drop this song on a brand new 7″ for Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten on September 4th!
