Psych Out With Walter

unnamedLos Angeles based band Walter create their very own style of psychedelic music with some throwback tendencies and heavily distorted guitars. Have yourself a taste of that irresistible sound with this latest single entitled “Poetics of Space”. It may take you a little while for this one to grow on you, but I can assure you the droning and heaviness will eventually grow on you with each and every listen.

This track is part of a new 7″ single due out on July 1st via Famous Class.

ATX Spotlight: Adam Torres

10710913_880766641947829_3226903866272317113_nThough he now calls Austin his home, I didn’t know much about local musician Adam Torres until today. Well I’m glad that I gave his music a chance this morning because he is creating some truly memorable singer/songwriter style tunes. A taste of his sound and style can be heard below in the form of his latest single “High Lonesome”. Be prepared, this one just might break your heart with its beauty.

Album Premiere: Jon Lindsay – Cities & Schools

5035One of my favorite things about running this website is when someone asks you to premiere an album you’ve already been spinning on repeat for a week or so. Well Mr. Jon Lindsay, who writes and creates songs mostly on his own, has been kind enough to give me just that opportunity today. Streaming in full below is his brand new album entitled Cities & Schools. One would be very hard pressed to define this music with simple things like indie pop or indie songwriter. No, this album is a profound look into a songwriter who creates at times rock songs with Americana tendencies, but can then throw in some synths here and there to surely cause your body to move. Honestly, I think everyone will find a little something to like about this album.

You can purchase a physical copy of this album on June 10th via File 13 Recordsor purchase physical copies via Jon’s website right now.

Shiny New Single From How Far to Mexico

13267908_937418903034132_7009201098422401159_nAs I’m enjoying this nice change of weather today, I’m needing some music to fit the sunshine currently spreading across our city. My new friends in Ottawa based band How Far to Mexico have given me just that with their new single “Fools”. It’s a bit of bright and shiny pop music with a bit of a breezy feeling perfect for a summer dance party or a long drive. I’ll be adding it to my summer playlist as I wrap up this post.

This track appears on a new EP entitled Drought coming out on June 11th (pre-order here).

Bright Pop From Chook Race

unnamedMan it seems like Trouble in Mind Records continues to find bands none of us have heard of and expose their music to the world. Melbourne based groupChookRace is yet another one of those groups discovered by the label. When describing this new find, I’m reminded of some killer brit pop bands like POBPAH or even fellow Australians Twerps. As many of you know our love for both of those bands, you can understand why I’m sharing this poppy and bright new song from the band entitled “Sometimes”.

Pick up new album Around the House via Trouble in Mind Records on September 2nd.

Welcome Back Cool Ghouls

unnamedI remember Nathan saying a while back that Cool Ghouls created this unique type of music which blends country and psych sounds to create music perfect for your backyard BBQ on a sunny summer afternoon. Well the guys have done it again with this new song, perfect for your breezy summer parties. It’s hard to believe that a band with songs such as this one isn’t blowing up as we speak. Maybe this 3rd album will bring them some of the fame they truly deserve.

Cool Ghouls will release Animal Races on August 19th via Empty Cellar Records.

While each day’s slated program of Primavera Sound 2016 was filled with great bands from all over the world, Thursday, the first day of the festival at Parc del Forum, was for me, the busiest of them all. Thursday had me bouncing around from stage to stage, and hustling to make the most of my time while keeping the headliners in the back of my mind. Read on after the jump to hear what were the best parts of day one and see some pictures.
