The Loom Return!

Upload_SxSW2ndSt_2012_03_16-18_40_13The Loom is a Brooklyn based band who are dear old friends of ours having played not one, but two of our SXSW shows over the years. Since that time way back in 2011, I haven’t heard much from lead singer John Fanning and assumed the band had called it quits. Well imagine my excitement today when I received word about a new album after a close to 5 year hiatus. Saving you anymore wordy words, I suggest you check out their new track premiering on the web today called “Fire Makes”. I’m loving this new directions from the band, seemingly trading in their folk tendencies of the past for a moreguitar heavytype of driving rock. Nice to see you again.

Here in the Deadlightswill be released on April 22nd via Crosbill Records.

Pleased to Meet You: Gibberish

gibberishI miss the old days where I felt like the music that Animal Collective was creating was accessible; it bordered on pushing boundaries while still remaining sensitive to pop lovers. Lucky for me I just discovered Gibberish, a California duo. There’s an electronic element, but it turns on the swirling melody that aims for the lofty heights of pop dreaminess. This single just hit the Internet, and with it, I’m hooked on the sound. I’m pretty sure you’ll feel the same, possibly leaving you clamoring for more, so stay tuned to these pages.

Watch the New Merries Video

12106948_1206840252663241_4324044664999367683_nThere’s definitely a soft spot in my heart for perfect guitar pop; I’m always looking for the sort that brings in distorted guitars wrapped around touching harmonies…sort of what Nada Surf‘s been doing for years. So here we have Helsinki’s Merries and their new video for “Travel to the Sun.” My only complaint is that the song might be a few seconds short; I could listen to this on repeat for hours. This song appears on the band’s forthcoming album, which is due later this spring, but it’ll appear on a 7″ from Royal Mint Records if you love it like I do.

Soulful Pop Vibes from Divino Nino

3-Panel_JCard_FRONT_AIRemember those early Little Joy or Rodrigo Amarante tunes that seemed to dance around nostalgic tropicalia, but with a fresher tone? That’s exactly what I hear in the newest single from Divino Nino, who also have some Latin roots to add…thus the band name. It sounds a lot like a really hip lounge singer who spends his weekends hanging about town playing in a psychedelic band; there’s just little doses of reverb and twangy wash, but not enough to detract from the central focus. Look for the group’s new album, The Shady Sexyfornia Tapes, which comes out on May 13th via The Native Sound.

Rock With Lisa Prank

d999a579-5704-4d2f-999e-6c43b272beffI know Nathan has been going crazy with some song posts over the last few days, but this guy needed a little break from it all for a spell. Today I’m ready to jump back into things with this great new track from Seattle based Lisa Prank. The new song, “Starting Again”, falls in to the lo-fi garage rock genre with complimentary pop elements to keep things catchy and light. Hope you enjoy this new one as much as I do.

Adult Teen will drop on June 24th via Father/Daughter Records.

Fresh Ramesh Tunes

RameshI was really happy to be part of the release of Ramesh‘s solo debut, The King (still a few copies left HERE). But, Ramesh is currently in and out of the studio working on new music for his follow-up…and I’m happy to share this tune with you today. He’s narrowed the band down a little bit in the last few months, at least in the live setting, so I think “Redemption” is the perfect piece to introduce this phase. You’ll still hear elements of the dreamy pop he’s known for, but this time, you’ll hear a more forceful band behind him. For now, this is just a taste of what we can be assured are great things to come.

Willis Earl Beal is a Gem

willisSometimes you come across an artist that garners hype all over the place, but you really want to stay away from all that nonsense. That being said, I can no longer ignore Willis Earl Beal and I apologize for waiting so long. He’s just upped a new single from his forthcoming Through the Dark EP, and it’s pretty magnificent. It’s one of those rare songs that comes across with a focus on the power of voice, and a remarkable one at that. The instrumentation is pretty light, though it crafts a beautifully haunting playground for Willis and his accompanying vocalist to soar. Look for the digital EP on April 1st via Tender Loving Empire.

Wistful Pop from Cool Sounds

coolsoundThis great track from Cool Sounds popped in the other day, and I couldn’t wait to share it with the world…or just the 8 followers we have. The Melbourne band are prepping their first full-length, Dance Moves, and let’s hope that this song, or vibe, makes its way into the album. There’s a smooth horn that rides its way through the entirety of the track, but that fits perfectly into the slow winding pop of the track…all given an emphatic push by the switching of male/female vocalists. Looking forward to see what’s coming from this act in the near future.

More from Eureka California

eurekaBeing prolific doesn’t seem to be a problem for Eureka California; they’ll be releasing their third album in three years this week! But, while some acts can just push out tracks that blend into album after album, I like that Eureka California always seems to be refreshed with each track; it’s what makes their album’s so enduring in your personal catalog. This song from the album Versus is a high energy rocker, hitting you in the face right from the start, and never letting go until the distorted guitar rings in your ears as the track fades. Feel free to have yourself some fun, turn it up, and buy the LP from HHBTM this week!
