New Americana Jam From The Parson Red Heads

parsons-groupIt’s been so long since I’ve heard the band name The Parson Red Heads, and I’m glad to receive some news today that they are indeed still alive and kickin’.  For proof, check out this brand new song called “To The Sky” and offer us your thoughts.  I find it to be a nice little slice of Americana music similar to something we might have heard from Blitzen Trapper back in the day that eventually ends in a majorly infectious jam out session.  I’m okay with that.

Expect new album, Orb Weaver, to hit stores on October 23rd via Fiesta Red Records.

Another Hit from Darren Sylvester

darrenFeel like we’re in need of something smooth as we head into the weekend, which is why this new single from Darren Sylvester is perfectly fitting.  While I think the musical element definitely falls in line with modern music trends, I like the way that Sylvester delivers his vocals. There’s a slight imperfection to his voice, which, when contrasted with the vocals, makes the song something that stands out from the ordinary.  You can find this track on his upcoming album, Off By Heart, which will hit the street on October 4th courtesy of the kindest people in the biz over at Chapter Music.

Great New Track From Criminal Hygiene

Upload Day SxSW 0314123211Los Angeles based homies Criminal Hygiene are a band that really made a name for themselves in the ATH musical guidebook during SXSW last year with their rowdy and intense live performances.  They also staked a claim in my music notes with their highly underrated 2013 debut release CRMNL HYGNE (fully streamable on bandcamp btw).

My fandom out of the way, the point of this post is to let you know that the band just sent us this new track “Pickman” to share with you guys.  The song is just downright badass from start to finish.  It begins in the typical sludgy rock style I’ve grown accustomed to from the guys, and then ends with some thrashing, intense rock n roll that’s sure to wake up even the casual rock fan.  WAKE UP.

This jam can be found on the soundtrack for the new transmedia novella project The Red Bicycle.  The digital soundtrack features tons of great music from local L.A. bands and is free with purchase of the novella.  You can pick that one up for only $9 over on Big Cartel.

New (ish) Jam from Royal Headache

Royal HeadacheThose of you who’ve got the Matador Singles Subscription already have this wonderful tune from Royal Headache in your collection, like myself, but the band just recently put the jam up for download, and it’s well worth your time.  Unlike their self-titled LP, which you should already own, this tune isn’t quite as frantic, though it still has the slightly noisy attitude that makes the group so remarkable.  I love hearing Shogun smoothly operate at the beginning, then go all out near the end of this track.  If they keep writing great tunes like this, there’s no reason these guys can’t be bigger than anyone else out there. Bet on it.

Danceable Pop Tune from Black Taxi

blacktaxiI’ve got to continue with my push towards Friday by feeding you all with some upbeat tunes to close out your week.  I’m thinking this new single from Black Taxi is definitely going to do the trick.  While it starts off subtle, the knifing guitar lines encourage dance floor stomping and flailing arms.  I won’t go so far as to say that it’s the most special thing out there, but it’s definitely deserving of a dance-friendly personal mix.  You can pick up the group’s Chiaroscuro EP next week courtesy of No Shame.  Dance dance dance!

Sprawling Rocker from Violent Soho

violentsohoI figured since we’re nearing the weekend, we could all probably use a little extra pep to carry us to the end of the week.  At first listen, this new single from Violent Soho might not seem like it fits, but be sure to hold on tightly.  The song does pen up rather carefully, slowing moving with a drawling vocal, yet moments later the guitars are amped up, blasting into your ears.  Vocals no longer seem calming, rather they’re ridden with angst.  It’s really something I think would have fit perfectly into mid-90s radio airplay, and I’m not going to lie, there’s a soft spot for that in my heart. Their new LP, Hungry Ghost was just released, so check it if you enjoy.

More New Music From Goodman

avatars-000029602421-5ruqnn-t200x200Back in February, I found myself taking a major liking to the musical stylings created by young NYC resident Michael Goodman and his project known simply as Goodman.  Today Michael has just sent over his latest single “Like What They Like” for us to share with you fans.  The track is yet another beautiful up beat pop tune that shows a lot of promise for the future of this young artist.  Hope you enjoy.

The track is also available to download at a pay what you want price over on bandcamp.

Austin Spotlight: Berkshire Hounds

berkshireHere’s a new piece of catchy rock n’ roll that just made it into our mailbox today: Berkshire Hounds.  I can definitely see how they’ve got a rhythmic groove to the work their crafting, backed with crunchy guitar sounds that erupt in line with the vocals.  Why does this song standout to my ears? It’s the usage of the saxophone, adding an element to this blend of indie rock that we’re not typically used to hearing.  The group’s still in the early phases of their existence, but you this single should hold you over until the band release their next full-length later on this fall.

Hell Yeah! New NoBunny Tune

482800_10200890279601888_881681324_nIf you follow me on Facebook, or are my friend, you’ll notice my profile pic, posted to the left (sorry I got fat) is me with my man Nobunny.  The guy rules, both on record and in the dirtiest of bars.  Sometimes he’s bratty, sometimes he’s brutal, but he’s always got this endearing punk rock quality to him.  This brand new single even has stronger production quality than what I’ve heard from him before, making me more than excited for what his new LP, Secret Songs, will offer listeners.  It’s slated for an October 15th release on Goner Records.  Nobunny!
