Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory Announce Debut LP

I’ll be upfront here; I did not enjoy the last Sharon Van Etten record. I love her voice, and its got such huge range, but that LP let me down. So, here we are on new horizons for the artist, as she’s enlisted her band in the songwriting process, creating something that feels a little bit like a darkened twist on her previous work. For me, the synth stabs that operate in the shadows while Van Etten offers a shimmering vocal performance are what make this quite a jam for you. It kind of feels like the band have allowed her to revisit the darker side of her craftsmanship, so we’re looking forward to seeing what Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory is really all about; the debut drops on February 7th via JagJaguwar.

Omni Announce Album

It’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill tune, hitting hard instantly, frenetically blasting through in less than two minutes. It sounds old-school, but in that, it also sounds refreshing, not being weighed down by any of the modern textures. This is pure angular punk of the pop sort, the type that excites anyone listening. Deluxe will be out on July 8th, so be ready for something really exciting.

New from No Zu

capture-nozu-096midI’m really excited by No Zu. In a world where people often get thrown into genres or defined by their past efforts, this group of Australians remain undefined. Think of yourself combining elements of funk, jazz, punk and other dance (hall) elements, combining them all to form an entirely new sound that you’re not likely to hear anywhere else. Seems like the gradual progression of where Chk Chk Chk and LCD Soundsystem crashed into the sound the Clash left behind at the end of their career. It’s rad, and this track will be featured on their new album, Afterlife, which is released by Chapter Music on February 5th.

Is America Ready for No Zu?

nozuI’m not quite sure a lot of people Stateside have heard of No Zu…unless they picked up the Cut Copy compilation Oceans Apart from awhile back.  But, the groove on this track from the Melbourne artists will surely perk up some ears here.  First, there’s that throbbing pulse, yet you can also hear the influence of so many other areas like big band to 80s pop music.  It’s an interesting pastiche, and one that should come across as rather refreshing in a genre that can often grow stale.  You can grab this new single from the band’s new label, Chapter Music, or wait for their next LP on the label early next year; it’s titled Afterlife.

New Dream Pop from Little Chords

If you dig hard enough, you can find some really incredible groups putting out records on bandcamp.  That’s how I discovered this great number from Little Chords, an act hailing from Vancouver. After doing my research, I was shocked to find out that it’s Jamison from Teen Daze, who’s winning over a lot of people on the Internet.  This Little Chords effort isn’t as dance heavy, instead reminding me of the bedroom works of Jack from Wild Nothing.  You can find this song, as well as other on the new record just released called Afterlife. It’s definitely repeated spin worthy.
