Sweet Nobody Announce We’re Trying Our Best

If you wanted to take the best of the Beths, Alvvays and Rosie Tucker, then toss into a mixing bowl, you might get the flavor of Sweet Nobody. Playing on the edge of dreamy pop, with introspective lyrical play, you’re sure to find their latest single rewarding. Personally, I can relate to the subject matter to, battling with your inner demons to fight through creative lows in order to get to the other side and create freely, no matter what you’re crafting. The song is the first single from the band’s We’re Trying Our Best LP, which is slated for release this September via Daydream Records.

Summer Sleeves Announce In the Throes of Woes

After spending a good 15 years playing music, Jeremy Charbonneau took a break to focus on his young family. But, the songs kept pulling at him, begging for completion, which led to the creation of Summer Sleeves. He’s signed up with Jigsaw Records to release In the Throes of Woes, and we’ve got the new single from the LP below. It’s a got a slight jangle, a splash of folk, but mostly its just really great songwriting. For me, it reminds me of the endearing side of the Shins from their first record, before it grew to be cliche; this is pop songwriting at its purest, working on great melodies and a voice with just enough peculiarity to keep it interesting. We’re better off having Jeremy back in the songwriting fold; the new album drops on April 23rd.

Mo Troper Announce Natural Beauty

I’ve been completely onboard with the first two Mo Troper LPs, so it only seems fitting to jump on board with his new one Natural Beauty, just announced on Friday. It’s clear through his growth that Mo’s intent upon banging out hook-laden pop songs, not too far off from where the early works of the New Pornographers dwelled. Even then, some of Troper’s devein-may-care attitude from his early days seeps through, which ends up sort of leaving you with this fuzzy guitar pop stomp that you’ll have spinning in your head for hours. Natural Beauty will be released by Tender Loving Empire on February 14th.

ATH Records to Work with The Ocean Party

oceanpartyUp until now, I’ve stuck mostly close to home for releasing records via ATH Records, and I’ve been really proud of that.  But, every once in a while, you have to step outside your comfort box and do something big.  So, I’ve decided to work with Spunk Records and the Aussie outfit, The Ocean Party.  They’ve already got a couple of great releases to their name, which we’ve covered on our site, so I’m really happy to be part of this new effort, Light Weight. The album will be out in October, but for now, you can grab a download of their excellent first single below.

Check HERE for updates and other ATH Records releases like Rose Sélavy/Templo X and the Lochness Mobsters (both out this week).

Austin Spotlight: Love Inks Announce Album

loveinksThose of you who were elsewhere Saturday night missed the mesmerizing set by Love Inks that closed out the Rockaway Beach Party at Hotel Vegas.   On the heels of that remarkable performance I awoke today to find news that the group had announced the release of their new album, Generation Club; it’ll be released on September 24th.  Their lead single for the upcoming release has a hypnotic beat that vibes throughout, whilst lead singer Sherry Leblanc cooly let’s the warmth of her vocals float atop.  Songs like this one, and a live show to back it up, show that the band is poised for a really incredible end to 2013.
