Pleased to Meet You: Nunofyrbeeswax

nunofyrbeeswaxWhen bands hit you up via a recommendation of one of your favorites, then you know you’ve done something right. That’s basically how Nunofyrbeeswax came into my view, bringing with them a brand of lo-fi punk rock. On their latest album, On Everything, they walk the line between spasticrock and classic post-punk. They employ knife-like angular guitar cuts, call-and response vocals and always fueled by their own infectious energy. The band is also part of a group called The Fingers, so that gives you yet another great act to spend your time with…two great bands, one quick post. Click play below, and have a little fun with your rock n’ roll today.

Stream Ciggie Witch’s Classic Connection

classicconnectionIn the midst of gearing up for another Ocean Party album, a few members had time to sit down with other friends (somemembers of Totally Mild) and record the latest album from Ciggie Witch.Classic Connection is their first new work since 2014, and it’s pretty much an all encompassing of the guitar sounds of Melbourne; it’s casual and catchy, filled with pop sensibility that’s ultimately undeniable for any listener. Lost and Lonesome is handling the release, and I hope a few copies make it to my side of the pond. Enjoy your morning.

Stream Most Intellectual by Plantation Band

PhotosPlantation Band are working with the good folks of ATH Records (that’s us!) to release their debut album, Most Intellectual. It’s our first foray into country music, but I assure you that labeling the band as such diminishes their abilities. Most Intellectual is the calm before the storm, as those who’ve witnessed the band’s live shows can attest, they’re growing in power, destined for great things. Their debut comes out this Friday, with a release show scheduled in Austin at Cheer Up Charlies on June 1st with their friends A. Sinclair. Stream the album below, fall in love with it and commit your future to the band…be glad you did.

Stream the Young Girls Album, Party Blood

younggirlsWe’ve long been fans of Houston’s Young Girls, helping the band whenever we could, and even putting out this, their sophomore album. I’ve been waiting to share the entirety of Party Blood with you; it’s my favorite thing they’ve done, and I think you’re all just going to fall in love. We don’t need any more hyperbole though, so stream it below. If you want, order it from the ATH Records site (it comes with a free 7″ for the first few weeks).

Did You Hear the New Soda Fountain Rag?

sodafountainragDid you? Did you hear it? We Were Never Being Boring just released the new album from Norway’s Soda Fountain Rag, and it’s a delightful listen, if you’re into great indiepop tunes. I think one of the reasons I immediately found myself attracted to the tunes was the clever and playful opener “Love Song for the Geek,” but I like the fact that things get turned into a softer tone later on, especially with tracks like “Oh, Oh.” It hits all the right indiepop notes, and that carries a lot of weight on this computer. The label is releasing Extra Lifeon a super-limited run, so fall in love, and grab it, if you’re inclined.

Stream Black Twig’s Blaze on a Plain

blacktwig_blazeonaplain_cover_FINALIt might have taken three tries, but Blaze on a Plain is the perfect statement being made by Finland’s Black Twig. They’re songwriting is at the top of their game, with every member contributing greatly to the success of each song. Opener “1998” is such a great track, that you’d expect a little bit of fall back, but its successor “The Swallows” might be equally as good, if not better in a different sense. Still, don’t just think it’s a front-heavy listen; you’ll find some real gems throughout, especially when you come across album closer, “Sunday TV.” The band says they recorded most of the tracks live, with just some small bits of polish, and if that’s the case, we should all schedule a flight to Finland to catch these guys live. Just because the name might not ring a bell, don’t sleep on this excellent bit of pop; it’s available now courtesy of Soliti.

Stream the Debut from Great American Canyon Band

12670686_10156772283935068_533196333295986591_nI’ve raved about the craftsmanship of Great American Canyon Band for the past few months, promoting several of the tracks off their debut album, Only You Remain. Well, it’s finally here, and I wanted to share with you the joyous listen, filled with dreamy soundscapes and allusions to folk influences. It’s a down-tempo journey, begging for your full mental immersion into the work the band have created. Just wanted you all to have a chance to get away from today by listening to the record; it’s available now via Six Degrees Records.

Stream the New Velcro Album

velcroIn case you didn’t hear how happy we were to help with the Ocean Party LP last year…we were, we really were. But, the long story is that I came to the band by way of Curtis W, the man behind Velcro, and one of the core members of OP. He just put up his new self-titled LP, and I think it’s a good bit of tunes to help you see where his songwriting comes from/goes. I think I’m currently stuck on the slight jangle of “Bed Ridden 2.” But, for you newcomers, or fans of Aussie pop, you can currently grab the album for NYOP…though we always encourage dollars going to the bands. Sweet streams.

Premiere: Brand New Tiger Waves Album

tigerLong have we loved Tiger Waves, through moves and line-up changes, and even a brief hiatus, I’ve always had their back…so I wanted you all to know that they’re giving away a brand new album of great songs. I asked for a single, and they suggested “Spectacle of You,” but after spending the better part of this morning with the release, it’s too good not to share the whole damn thing. You can grab it for NYOP, but please please please, have a soul. Give the band some cash, a dollar even…it goes a long way towards future recordings and life sustainability. Regardless, stream Tippy Beach below. The album also features local singer Jana Horn of Reservations.

Album Stream: Nathaniel Bellows – The Old Illusions

nathanWhile Austin seems to have evaded the gentlest clutches of Winter, I’ve foundmyself listening to tons of wintry folk tunes, but perhaps none sounds as complete as the new album from Nathaniel Bellows. The Old Illusions is filled with intricate little guitar details, and a voice that haunts the inside of your mind. Listen carefully throughout, as you’re going to find these little bits of accompaniment that make this album wholly enchanting and pretty inescapable. In a landscape where tunes get discarded for the next batch, this is something with which you can spend all day. I’ve been gravitating towards “At Sea” the most during my listening. Look for the album this Friday, January 22nd!
