Noisy Rock From Birthday Girl

Tuesday seems like a perfect day for some noisy, sludge rock n roll. Why, no real reason other than today is Tuesday and I’ve just received this loud new song called “I Came Here to Eat” from Stockholm based Birthday Girl. It’s a little bit aggressive, yet also restrained with some heavy bass and washed out vocals. For me, it’s fitting in nicely during my Tuesday routine.

This track is out now via video and all digital platforms on the band’s own Sweet Cream Records.

The Sighs Return for Third Album

You likely haven’t heard from the Sighs since the late 90s, but with the world feeling nostalgic, its time to revisit the band now that they’ve announced a new album (first in almost 20 years). It definitely wears a nostalgic sound of alternative rock, especially with the ominous sound of the first 60 seconds. I really like the chorus, counter-balancing the heavy driving riffs with this perfect fill of melody and hooks. Now that the band have made their comeback complete, look for the release of their new LP, Wait on Another Day, which comes on September 8th via Omad Records.

Did You Hear That New Darling Buds Tune

The Darling Buds are here to bring you back to nostalgic pop music, offering up a brand new EP that’s filled with hook-laden guitar stabs and a sultry vocal that seemed to be on every soundtrack of the 90s. But, if you know the history of the band, and the likes of John Peel, you know that everyone was probably ripping this group off, whether they knew it or not. This is their big return, some of the first we’ve heard from them in 25 years. You know you want it, and you can have it, but only on tape, as the 10″ version from Oddbox Records is already sold out. Here you go folks, thank us later.

Listen to New Tunes from Sheer

sheerCalifornia’s Sheer are prepping the release of their new 7″ for The Native Sound, who will release it some time in August. I dig the band’s sound, bringing back a more alternative sound that’s not often utilized, contrasting a pristine female vocal with shimmering buzzsaw guitars; it’s as if Mazzy Star decided she wanted to sit back and jam with members of MBV. There’s a little bit of restraint too, allowing to maximize the song’s pop sensibility that pervades. Just really dug it, so felt like sharing it with you all.
